The new macromedia.com

new site design… more flash based - not too bad, though seems to veer a little from the clean, white, minimalistic macromedia feel they’ve had for the last couple of years. Not that I mind… 'sa nice change.

You know what? I think I prefer the old one.

Maybe it just because that’s what I’m used to from Macromedia. But I liked the white backgrounds and all… Oh well. It’s not at all bad though, looks more Flash-y and that. As long as I can stll find what I want then I guess I don’t mind. :smirk:

it surprises me that their site looks so ‘plain’. I’m sorry but creating such powerful progs such as falsh they should kick asses.
and besides i agree that the old one seemed a bit more comprehensible… anyway i’ll stick to Kirupa for news & tuts

I think they were more for compatibility and usability over showing off what they can achieve (reasoning for their site of the week) plus you have to think a lot of people who might go there might be going there to actually get the flash player at which point, if the site was in flash, they wouldnt be able to see it.

Now though, especially with the online presense of the player, you can see with this new design that they are using a lot of their own technologies in a more useful self-endorsing manner.

… of course that was see in the old site’s more “comprehensible” feel, even though much of the content is the same, just encased around a different kind of template… one with an ikky beige background :-\ (which actually sometimes almost works for me … Ill get used to it in time)

Basic is usually better for a serious site like Macromedia. It looks good to me.

Hey everyone,
The design isn’t too bad, but I agree with Kit on this one - I liked the previous design more. The fonts on their navigation are blurry (gahH!!!), besides that, the colors are a welcome change. I’m sure once we get used to this design, we’ll scoff at the old one!

Cheers!
Kirupa :rambo:

i didn´t like the beige background, but other than that i think it´s pretty good.

i´d say a good change =)

this is the usual case of the makers of programs not always the best at using their own program. When they made flash they never though us the users would use it in a way that we do, the whole reason why flash is so BIG now is that the user requested it.

i actually like both layouts, old and new. the new one is missing something , cant point my finger on it, though i rather the newer layout.
:smirk:

I agree with Guig0 - the site doesnt look too bad but I dont like the colour chosen for the background.

It acually kind of loaded slow for me too - a big change from the other design. I am sure there are still some bugs to be worked out. But it does have a little more “flair” to it

I think the new site is great. Much better looking than the old one.
I am also glad to see that they finally integrated Flash more into the site and don’t just have it as a novelty, but rather as a useful tool. The forms the nav and the overall functionality has been improved do to flash. I like the subtle design simply because with such a feature rich and content heavy site, it allows the navigation and content to play a more dominant role.

There are some small design issues, which are more stylistic in nature than functionally.

All in all its a great improvement. Their old site was just nasty and lacked all the new features the site has now. I am glad they finally redid the site and used some of their own advice as seen in their pubs.

Kudos to Macromedia, finally a site they did that I don’t cringe at.

Well said akurth.

again very well said akurth

whoa, that site takes a lot of CPU time. surprised.

ew, it looked dirty compared to before, like some sort of dirty flash sex or something.

I prefer the old site much more.

I don’t know bout u guys but I think it lags a tad…
