Times running out for Hotmail

Microsoft Announces New Hotmail Fee

In order to stop the spread of spam, Microsoft will start charging users who use Outlook or Outlook Express to access e-mail. It will stop being free in April of 2005. New Hotmail and MSN users will not be allowed to access the service via Outlook.

MSN Lead Project Manager Brooke Richardson says: "Essentially what spammers do is create scripts so they can rapid-fire e-mail from Outlook or Outlook Express and pop off a hundred e-mails from each of those Hotmail accounts in rapid succession."

Microsoft also does not allow free Hotmail users to send over 100 outgoing e-mails. Those who want to pay can pay annual fees of $19.95 for Hotmail Plus or $99.95 for MSN Premium. Yahoo! already has a similar policy for accessing its e-mail.

Once I can’t use outlook to check my Hotmail account it will be left to rot.

bye bye hotmail

mine’s already rotting…

What’s Hotmail? :stuck_out_tongue:

everytime I read about hackers getting peoples details from their e-mail account it’s Hotmail thats been attacked. I know other e-mail providers are just as susceptible but it’s always Hotmail.

Is it because they’re securitys not up to scratch, they have so many users it’s easier to get more peoples details or is it because they make themselves a target :h:

So it sounds to me like Microsoft just wants the spammers to pay to use their service.

I think mine’s already rotten itself out of existence :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve had this one email address for too long though, I hate switching.

Same here…

Oh well… My Outlook does check 4 e-mail accounts for me now anyway, guess that we be set to 3 soon enough.

It’s like does MS want to keep Hotmail running or close it down. They seem to be making changes for the better every now and again. But then they keep doing things that make you want to go else where…

meanwhile g-mail collects big-brother style information on you and your address books

Yeah well data mining is nothing new.

If I use a free service I am going to get hit with ads, better that they are relevant to me than not.

Psh, Microsoft starts charging me to use something they included “free” with my purchase of Windows…

Idiots…

Must they make money on EVERYTHING?

Say bye outlook, say hello Thunderbird!

Ok just to clear it up for me
i use outlook express for my “@bigpond.net.au” email,
do i have to start paying next april?? :h:
Thanks alot,
in confusion,
Ben (flashy22)

No you wont have to pay to check your bigpond.

Hotmail will block you from checking your Hotmail account unless you pay for one of their upgrade accounts.

OFF TOPIC
PS:
If your using Bigpond as your ISP… Unless your a staff member and get a discount, do yourself a favour and find someone else.

Telstra will rip you off full stop.

Dont matter if it is home, mobile, internet…

This is what I am currently paying.

Iprimus $55 per month. Includes.
Phone line rental
(about $25-$30 per month on Telstra)

Internet. unlimited downloads. disconnects once in 24 hours
(Telstra about $25-$30 per month, limited down loads, then you pay per meg, 4 hour disconnecting period. So every 4 hours you pay for a local call to reconnect.)

Unlimited free local calls. Make as many local calls as you want, within reason. Their within reason is a stupid amount… you would need 10 teenage daughters to even make a dent on it.
(telstra might give you $$ amount if local calls per month if you have home and internet. But if your like me and have the net on 24/7 then because they make you reconnect every 4 hours that gets used up in no time.

It don’t matter if your using 56k or Broadband… Check this out and save yourself some money.

TELSTRA blows harder than a $2 dollar whore… If that’s what you like go with them. Or do yourself a favour and find someeone who wont rip you off.

PS:
Forget Hyper MAX,
It is Telstra’s cheaper version of it’s self.

NOTE:
If I seem to dislike Telstra it is because I do. I used to have Mobile, Phone and net with them. Once you wake up and realise how sucky the service you get is, even though you pay more than anywhere else. It’s like a slap in the face…

While on the topic of the downfalls of email. Why not just pay $6 a year for an email address and get one of those $12 a year hosting accounts. That way, you get no ads and nobody snooping through your mail.

really? :h:

I already have a dot com hosted, so I can have 150 email accounts with IMAP and Outlook access with no ads.
