Using Scenes - Opinions, NOT help required

Hi, I don’t know if this has been asked OR answered before. But searching the forums with the keyword ‘scenes’, brings up an awful lot of hits.

Heres my question:
Are scenes in Flash still useful?

When I first started out creating web sites in Flash (which is what I primarily use Flash for) I used a scene for Each page.

But as sites got more and more pages, I found that Scenes made it harder to update, AND that the more scenes being used, the more my Publish time got shoved from under a minute to 10 or so minutes (I usually have to go for a short walk) Which, Is obviously not good when the scenes still have movieclips that need to be published to preview properly.

  • Note: It has nothing to do with computer speed, it just happens with the couple Flash sites that have 10 or so Scenes. I’ve built larger websites that have more content, but single scenes, and larger Flas that take only 20-60 seconds to publish -

So now I build websites using a movielcip container to contain the individual pages, and seperate Movieclips to contain navigation etc…
All in one scene. Easy to edit, fairly clean.

So, what are Scenes good for now? I realize Flash is more then a web Site creation tool. So are Scenes still useful for things like Animations? Games?
If so, how do you use them, and why is it prefered over putting things into MC containers?

The question has been bugging me, and I’m unsure where to find an asnwer to this question other then here, much less how to properly search for it without getting 1.3 tons of related but essentially useless links and pages etc…

So if you have a moment, please let me know what you think.
If I’m wrong about Scenes, I’d love to know, how and why.
I don’t feel too strongly about them, so I won’t feel offended. I’d just like to improve my work habits in regards to layout in Flash.

Thank you, as always, for your time.
