Video card question

Hello people.

I was wondering, I have a PCI video card hooked up right now. I just purchased an AGP card to hook up so I could have dual monitors. The thing is - the new AGP card has dual monitor support already. Does this mean I could hook up 3 monitors at once?

Pleae, if you know - let me know!

I really am not sure, but I think Windows does not support more than two monitors at the moment. I may be wrong though. I think it would be best to remove your PCI card (frees up IRQ resources) and simply use the AGP card’s dual-monitor ability instead.

Cheers!

well… I’m not sure about this, but it’s not up to windows to support the two monitors, but it depends on your video card. I know I had a laptop where I last worked that allowed me to use the laptop screen and another monitor as my desktop. But… why not try it… I’d LOVE to have 3 monitors at once, and I know where to get free monitors…

You know where to get free monitors Raf?
Wanna get me a free monitor?
For free?
;):P:beam:

well… my previous job has a bunch of OLD monitors… so they’re 15 inch vga’s… if you live near dc maybe I can get you one.

i was j/k…
lol that would be cool tho, even if they suck… u should get a bunch and sell em for 5 bucks

if your new agp card has two outputs on it, they don’t have to be the same type, then your video card can output to both of those types. for example, my GF4 has an output for standard monitor and another one for DVI, which connects to digital televisions. now mine can support output to both at the same time.

now depending on your software, you may or may not be able to output to three at the same time. usually the software that comes with your video card will take over windows’ control of the multiple monitor support. read the software’s faqs to find out. or you can always give it a shot, granted that you have three monitors.

Thoriphes - that’s where the problem is - I only have 2 monitors so I dont really have any way of trying  Trial and error is always the best way really.

Here’s another part to the question.

The PCI card I have in there already is much more powerfull than the AGP one - would it still work if I only used one PCI slot and one AGP and just didnt hook anything up to the second APG monitor port? I mean I could try and find out myself but it’s a pain in the butt to take it all part and then fail  So if anyone knows ahead of time that would be great!

um, yeah, that should work. is the other output on the agp/pci another monitor output? or something different?

the PCI card (that is hooked up now) is a single monitor card with a TV out function.

The AGP Card has dual monitor support - it has 2 monitor jacks in the back. I want to leave the PCI card installed and just put the AGP one in but only use one of the inputs.

But enough talking - time to get to work  Trial and Error!!!

i think it is better to take off your old video card becuase it may conflict with your new one.
