Video-Game Review - xbox360 - The Darkness
Wickedly dark and gruesome shooter.

So, have you read The Darkness? It’s a wicked comic. Rivals Spawn in attention to detail, graphically. For the unlucky ones, and the ones that are too grown up to read comics (I’m 28 and I still read certain ones), here’s a quick rundown on what this game is based on;

*“The Darkness” is an ageless, horrible and wonderful curse. The curse passes down from father to son, and presents itself on the users 21st birthday. This affliction enables you to summon demons, abominations and just generally horrible ghost-beings to kill foes, protect you or just fetch your Ginger Ale. The catch is that they can only survive in Darkness.
*

Its current user is Jackie Estacado. Jackie was, previous to his discovery of The Darkness a violent hitman for the Mafia. After he discovered his powers … well, needless to say, things didn’t take a turn for the good of the world.

Right, so you got the basics. You play a hitman with crazy demonic powers. Not a shabby start eh? You got a few random assorted guns, which are unusually powerful (people in this game don’t stand after 12 bullets in the head like some other cough games I know). But your main arsenal are your evil abilities. You got 4 powers, some more powerful than others. Drawback, as mentioned, is that they only work if its dark. And it’s not dark all the time. Quite far from it. You have to take out a huge amount of lights everywhere to make sure your powers are up. This gets a bit lame after a while, but all games has its flaws. Apart from your powers, you also have 4 minions. They are pretty hard to control, and are wickedly evil (sometimes when they make a kill they start jumping on the victims head and chuckle evilly. Wonderful!). However, they perish pretty fast in light.

The single player campaign is like one prolonged adrenaline rush. There are a few showstoppers, but in general its action action at 150 mph. The story is also at points incredibly dark and … well actually kinda disturbing sometimes. But thats what I love about it. It’s not afraid to get in your face. After all, you ARE playing evil incarnated :slight_smile:

The story line is well executed and interesting to follow and the graphics are stunning at times. It’s not the most amazing game ever, but its definitely worth 50 bucks.
Wickedly anti-good! Visually awesome and innovative gameplay

Ending was not awesome. Controls aren’t very intuitive.
