i found a virus on my computer this morning. i have McAfee virus scan going at all times and it didn’t catch it. Is there any other good program for virus protection? What do you all use?
i personally dont use any virus protection, i have never had a virus on my pc in the 9 years ive been using computers strange isnt it? lol
i dont think mcafee is good, i use it at home, and my computer has gone to hell… and i think cause I have a virus lol.
I think Panda Software is good (there is a online free version but I cna never get it to work)
McAfee is terrible. It doesn’t do any good. The shop that I work at uses AVG when we run tests. It usually picks up 3 or 4 viruses that even Norton misses. I don’t think its terribly expensive…
yes it is! AVG is free. thats way to expensive for me. lol.
the trial is free, but the full program is $50 or so isnt it?
no, im pretty sure there is a free version… thats what the screen savers said.
ohh ok. yeah there is a full free version. I use the professional version. I got that for free too tho because my boss gives me free software. Professional edition is only $40-50
I stick with The newest versions of Norton… hasnt done me wrong so far knock on wood and it has caught many a virus in my email from those **** spam people…
SureShot: Not to knock Nortons, because I use that too, but AVG (for me and my shop) generally tends to find a virus or two that Norton overlooks. I have the ultimate protection lol…
I don’t run any virus software full-time in the background, but I run a dual system test. AVG and Norton. Then I run a Spyware killer. Restart the computer and then do it again.
Its pointless tho, I haven’t had a virus on three years.
I love my job tho because I get to laugh at stupid people. This one guy had 879 viruses on his computer. It was just a stupid one that would duplicate itself over and over and over again. We think that he had it for about 2-3 years. He was running McAFee and it didn’t detect any of them! Funny stuff… people are so stupid when it comes to computers…
I think I might have 880 viruses on my computer. lol. i need my friend to format my computer for me, because I dont want to mess it up. :trout:
i had norton on my old computer and it was ok, i think i might try AVG, $50 is not expensive to me. I was just using mcafee cause it came with the computer. **** thing. guess i’ll be going to best buy today, haha!!
Jubba - thanks for the advice dude - I may go and download the trial or free version or whatever and see if it finds anything for me. I have been downloading stuff of the net for a few years now and have been pretty lucky as far as viruses are concerned… I have yet to have one take over my computer knock on wood
The thing I think is most important now a days is a good firewall and spyware killer - with those you are pretty safe from most dangerous things on the web.
Again, thanks Jubs I will go and check out the program. I wonder if there will be any problem with having both installed…?
Nope. I have both installed. I don’t run either full-time though… it causes my computer to slow down too much. I run them both when I do a full system scan…
I use PC-Cillin by Trend Micro. It found funlove when Norton didn’t, quite good eeh :beam:
so i just want a final count. how many of you recommend norton and how many recommend AVG?
Does anyone know anything about .eml files? One of my PC’s runs XP [for my sins] and every now and then I get about 80 .eml files scattered throughout my folders. I use Ad-aware 6 to delete them [and other scum-ware] but I would rather they didn’t turn up in the first place. I’m not sure if it’s a related problem or not but I also get ads suddenly pop up from time to time. They aren’t pop-ups like you get from some websites. They look more like a VB warning only it says stuff like Call bla bla bla for all your medical needs. Can anyone help with this? Should I just get a better Anti virus protector??
hey kel, check your computer for a program called rapid blaster or a file called rb32.exe or DialerOffline.dll. sounds like you got a parasite.
as for my security, i use NAV, Nfirewall, and a VERY WONDERFUL PROGRAM called AntiTrojan. its a trojan scanner. it will pick up trojans that other antivirus programs don’t. also, it will scan your ports and see if you ahve any tojan ports open. it’s been a wonderful help to me.
If I have any of them should I delete them??
And thanx again!!
yes yes!!! you have to go into the registry and kill any reg entries too. heres a good site about parasites and their removal.
