Wakeboarders

Any wakeboarders among you guys?

I’m so excited for this summer. I got a new boat, 2005 Mastercraft X-2:

Hopefully putting it in the water next weekend (the amp+sub+some speakers got stolen before we bought it so we’re getting those replaced this week).

For the wakeboarders, what tricks can you guys do? What boats do you have?

Awesome boat, my uncles is like a old skoo one but its fast enough for tuben and waken
I go with my brother and my uncle everysummer for like a week! and its awesome, im not to good at waken"wakeboardin" but i can get up go inside outside the wake, and almost cleare it once. My bro can do like a 360 backflip or somthin like that pretty sick but he goes like every weekend rain or sun.

Were you live? we in cali:D

That’s cool =)

I live in Iowa. Cali would be much better weather, but I have to tough it out here, we only get like a 5 month season. Late-April/Early-May to Mid/Late-September

lol cool, it wont stop raining down here tho so, theres been like 2 days of sun this year

sounds like some cool stuff, im in scotland so the only wake boardin here is waking up from a hang over. you wake up and ur head feels like it got smacked with a solid wooden board.

I wakeboard/waterski/kneeboard every chance I get in the summer which is usually every weekend but our season is ridiculously short. The water is ice cold up until about the middle of June and if your lucky you can go up till the second half of September before its too cold again… although with enough Mikes Hard Lemonade you can ski right up until the ice forms ;).

The worst though is the period inbetween seasons where you cant wakeboard OR snowboard. I think its called hunting season?

Those Mastercrafts are really cool. Im jealous! I had an offer to trade my Larson and tigersharks for one almost identical to that (except it was yellow) a couple years ago but the t-sharks help extend the season so I passed. Cant really get big air behind my boat unless I install a telescopic pole like yours but then I’d have to reinforce my floor and hull to take the stress so I have to settle for 5 to 6 feet of air but if your going fast enough its still feels like flying for a short time.

My favorite and probably stupidest trick is actually on the kneeboard. I cut out hard from the wake, go into a triple spin while wrapping the rope around myself, grab and hold the rope with my free hand to stop the yo-yo, take a quick breath then charge the wake and just as I hit the crest let go of the rope. You end up with a triple air spin about 4 feet above the water usually resulting in a terrible crash that leaves you crippled for days. Sweet! A friend showed it to me years ago. I think its called “the helicopter”?

Really nice boats guys.

My uncle lives on a lake and has all that sort of stuff i only go up to like 55 I think was my fastest and that hurts so much to hit the water. My dad and them usually get around 60 to 65 before they just hit the wave and are off.

I can’t wait till its warm enough to go out… michigans warming up though.

BTW… how fast does that boat go *(either one of you)?

999 - that’s sweet. I suck at kneeboarding. My friend can do a barrel role though, that’s always fun to watch =)

Nice boat (and PWCs), do you have any ballasts or do you just use the stock I/O wake?

I’ve been stuck with a Prostar 190 for the past few years, it puts up no wake at all. It’s great for slalom skiing, but for wakeboarding it’s horrendous (especially without any ballasts), so I’ve been bumming off of friends’ boats.

Templarian - You’re nuts man. I’d chicken out before going that fast lol. The X-2 doesn’t go all that fast, it’s all about the wake; it has 3 internal ballasts, plus it’s a v-drive, so the wake is pretty nice (huge and crisp) =)

Who drives the boat while you do tricks?

Buddies of course (unless no one is around… then my dad does) =)

This year my sister will be old enough to drive though, so she’ll probably do her fair share.

The boat tops at 65ish its really really nice… and notice that i said most i’ve gone… after 55 you sort of hurt for a while. I got a nice size bruise on my ankle. what you do is take a large raft like 10ft x 10ft (we compressed the front upwards to catch wind) and go air born… my little cousin did.

I wakeboard in the low to mid 20s, and even at that speed you can break ribs if you take a hard fall.

Slalom, I go in the low to mid 30s (through the course).

Anything above that and I’m out :stuck_out_tongue:

Mines not all that fast either. Under perfect conditions like no wind, glass water, the right prop, and no more than two people onboard it can hit 65 but without ballast it will start hopping soon after. Put 5 people in and add some chop and 40-45 is about all it can manage.

Stock, but theres usually 4-5 people strategically placed and combined with some adjustments to the trim control we can usually get a pretty good shape. I have a ski locker running down the center that I considered installing a ballast system in but I actually like storing ski’s in there.

Barrel rolls are insane! I worked up the courage to try one a couple years ago and came down right on my head. I seriously thought I had broken my neck and thats the last time I ever tried one. If I ever do one again it will be completely by accident!

Speedwise I like 20-25 for the wakeboard, 30-35 for the kneeboard and skis although I cant slalom to save my life, gave up trying years ago.

For adrenaline rushes I will go 45-50 on the kneeboard but I stay in a straight line in the wake and pretty much scream in terror the entire time. Another one I like is if the water is calm and noones around I’ll signal the driver to go into a tight spin and do a slingshot around the boat. I cant even guess the speed your moving at? At the top of the arc you can feel your fingers stretching and its all you can do to hold on but for whatever reason the kneeboard feels really stable, even sideways, and when you finally lose your grip you go rocketing across the lake! I would never even consider trying that on a wakeboard or ski’s though.

It’s gonna be a couple months yet before I get to do any of this. :frowning:

I’m on a water ski team and I tried doing that around the boat thing on a slalom ski during practice. I almost made it all the way around. But I kept getting the handle ripped out of my hand as I was making my cut.

How much did that x-2 cost?

Just under 40k

after about 8 or 9 whips we all had extreme muscle spasms for at least a week…

Nice boat =)

:open_mouth: lots of money for such a small boat.

You could’ve bought me a nice used Mooney or Cessna to fly! :frowning:

Yay, summer is here =)

We put our boat in today, first day on the water was nice. A little chilly still (ok that’s an understatement), but I ventured into the water. Hopefully I’ll get to go back out to the lake tomorrow.

My sister took a picture of me boarding (it’s a cameraphone pic, sorry for the crap quality), here it is, the first run of the summer:

We did some surfing too, barrels of fun. The boat runs nicely
