Website emotional distress

sup everyone,
Since many of us run sites here i thought this would be a good place to post this. I started a new site that relates to technology and stuff. I wrote an article and I got tons of traffic. My site is 4 months old BTW. Every month the traffic is increasing like crazy.

Traffic Stats: (in months, use of bandwidth)

1st Month --> 72MB (can’t say for sure, had server issues)
2nd Month --> 7GB
3rd Month --> 16GB
4th Month --> 25GB

I know that I must be doing something right to get increase in traffic every month. BUT sometimes people don’t agree with me and I know that I can’t make everyone happy so I get flame email in my inbox.

I get comments like “This site is a joke.” “Why are you even running this site?” “You don’t know anything about technology?” etc. etc.

Just to let you know I have only gotten the above 3 flame mails in 4 months so it’s not that bad. BUT the thing is it always depresses me when I get such comments.

How do you guys deal with flame comments? What do you do?

Any suggestions. :frowning:

just dwai there’re always going to be people who don’t like you because you have something good going

(btw, what is the site?)

“just dwai there’re always going to be people who don’t like you because you have something good going”

Hopefully you are right… :slight_smile:

My host has been down for couple days. I will post the domain once it’s up.

other suggestions…

One Word: Delete

Seriously, if I don’t like a site I leave it. Obviously these people don’t have anything better to do but browse sites they don’t like then complain about it. There are always going to be people flaming you, but they have no lives, so they don’t count :wink:

I remember one flame e-mail I got, someone telling me I should quit designing and coding because I sucked at both. Well, methinks this person was jealous :bad: so I just hit the delete button, no point in hurting his pride futher :evil:

People are allowed to have opinions, and when you offer up an e-mail addy for contact, they are allowed to express them to you, some people make it a point to do this (only when they have to complain) for some reason. But it also your right to ignore/delete e-mails in your own personal inbox :stuck_out_tongue:

or setup a filter lol to block words like that hahah

nah man just don’t let it phase you…there’s only been that few???

be proud of yourself!

wtf were they smoking? lol, ur 1 of the best coders/designers i’ve ever seen man! i don’t see how they could possibly tell such a huge lie lol, its so incredibly stupid it’s hilarious
roflmfao

I reply back to flames as long as they don’t use any words such as F*** or other things. All I say in my reply is “Sorry to know that we couldn’t please you.” And after that I don’t get any replies. I don’t use bad words in my email as it can further destroy the reputation of my email if the guy decides to post it on other competitive sites and besides it’s not really professional.

I try not to think about the flames but sometimes I still do. I know if my traffic is increasing them many many people are liking it BUT human mind can wander into many depressions.

You guys rock. I bet kirupa also get some flames and stuff and yet there are so many people that love this site including me from now on.

hardwarenewbie: don’t let it bother you. my reply to a email like that would probably be:

well let’s see what you have accomlished?..

and i bet you won’t get a reply

I will give you the URL later as the site is currently down.

wow, way to welcome the newcomer :stuck_out_tongue: lol

at least we know hes not just trying to get some extra visitors to his site :wink:

Keep in mind that my host hasn’t updated the site stats for a week now because of some server issues. And I have also cut out some info. from the site as it provided sensitive info. about my site. They don’t exactly represent what I said as they are a little off.

I am definitely not here to get traffic to my site. I hate when people post their site addresses and ask for “Critiques.” Mostly they are legit posts but some post them just so they can get some traffic.

Let me see if I can get that info. Wait for couple minutes. Alright. I won’t be able to provide with stats for every month as my host seperates them but I will provide them for Oct.

i assume that u were threatening to do something bad, but after “shut up yeldarb” the rest kind of went over my head :stuck_out_tongue:

hardwarenewbie i just reread ur original post.

26 gb? eh… i find it hard to believe your site gets that much traffic and its down…

Almost 2 million hits in this month.

I know it can be hard. According to my host “Due to the malfunctioning of one server cluster” my site has been down. Let’s hope it up soon and besides even the big sites go down. Mine is not even that big.

I was wondering the same thing…

why so secretive?

and why is your profile so conveniently empty…

hmmmm, Philbo, we may have to to some research on this one…

something smells, and I don’t think it’s Phil this time…

The numbers include all four months and the stats I have provided is only for OCTOBER. :slight_smile: Anyways, back to the stat issue. The reason why I am being so “secretive” is because I don’t want anyone to visit my site when it is down. It should be up in a day or two and I will definitely post it to get rid of all the suspicion you might have.

I am defintiely not hosting a server of any sort. It’s just a regular site with pictures and text. My site is definitely not bigger than what my stats show.
