I am not taking things serious or personal. It just surprised me that experienced webmasters are having problems understanding how website traffic works? I am trying to clear up this confusion so other people who might get the same amount of traffic as I do, don’t get sarcasm here.

**Why are you guys so confused about hits and traffic? It seems to me as though spending 25GB bandwidth is a lot. You guys have no true idea of how much bandwidth can a site get? (no offense to anyone) **
I thought you were asking us =)
Well, we mainly do websites that have some flashy UNDER CONSTRUCTION as the entire thing. The few of us who actually do have successful sites don’t really offer anything like yours does.
hardwarenewbie, you remind me of my lil buddy named Alex. He often claims to have hundreds of hits a day and we soon found out it was just him sitting at the comp hitting the refresh button. =)

LOL
Yeah, but you’d have to have a VERY sore finger if you were gonna work up 25gb of traffic.
I don’t think anything is wrong with that traffic. That’s normal traffic for a normal website. But I still wonder what’s keeping you from posting your URL. It doesn’t matter whether you post it now or 2 days later, so why not now? :h:
It depends on your definition of “Successful.” Most of you guys are professional or pro- in training on this site. You guys make portfolios to show it to your employers when you try to get a job or if you do free lance. Most of you like art and flash and do it for fun. My site is also a hobby BTW.
If someone visits your “successful” site from Google or anything else then they don’t have any regular updated content or fresh info. to view. They also see things that relate to you but my site doesn’t work that way. I post 2 products reviews every week. I post latest IT news everyday, couple times a day so people always have fresh things to look at.
And besides computer and technology is one of the fastest growing fields in the world so surely it would make sense for people to visit my site, wouldn’t it?
I was never asking for your help on stats. When people started asking me about my site and stats, I just posted them. I was just asking for suggestions on what to do when you get “flamed” because of your site.
Alright, hardwarenewbie, enough play time. Time to chat/post like the grown-ups we are.
Coming back to your question on flame mail, I get flamed all the time for my site like “YOUR SITE SUCKS” or “FLASH IS FOR WUSSES WHO CAN’T HANDLE DHTML” or “SAVE UP TO 19% ON YOUR NEXT AIRLINE TICKETS”. I can’t stand it sometimes. What I do to alleviate the psychological pain these e-mails do to me is simply delete them, forget them, go on, sign-up their e-mail addresses to po**rn sites, sites with subscriptions, etc.
You say you got like 3 flame-mails in four months of 25GB of traffic. BOOHOO!!! :*(
Three insy-winsy e-mails are going to outweigh the satisfaction you get from 25GB of traffic? Now unless you have BMPs as your images or uncompressed AVIs as your movies, you should be glad you get that much traffic. =)
Thank for phat7 for agreeing with me. I was about to post my site link here but since I got accused of creating all the hype to get traffic and also asked by EG to not post the link, I am not going to do that. Like I said before, I am not here to promote my site I am just here to discuss the stats and stuff.
BTW, I don’t hit refresh button all day long. You do realize that I would have to sit on my computer all day long and hit refresh for 24/7 and for 30 days to even think about reaching 25GB.

you don’t have to. =)
I dunno how you do it, but I rest a book on top of my F5 key (along top others, but still works) so i can wake up the next morning and find that my hits at the worst time of the day are at its highest.
I only jpeg on my images and don’t post anything that would cause my bandwidth to increase as I don’t have the money right now to add more bandwidth on my server. I can use maximum of 30GB/month. I don’t look at bandwidth to measure my traffic. I usually look at page views and number of visitors. My webpages are no bigger than 30KB.
Finally, we are back to the topic. Yes, those 3 flame emails did depressed me as they were very discouraging. I am pretty glad that my site gets that much traffic but when you work hard during the nights and go to school/work during the day it is definitely discouraging to get those flame mails.
On the topic of bandwith, why don’t you email a big hosting company saying that you need hosting and would be willing to put a small sponsorship symbol on your site if they would host you.
That’s what Kirupa did, and he got free hosting with MediaTemple.

**Thor I don’t think that’s efficient enough. Here’s what I do, I go to my school, go into the computer labs and have all of them viewing my site.
And then!! I use books and rest them on the F5 keys on all the keyboards. **
oh yeah that reminds me of this one method (hardwarenewbie, better break out a pen and paper for this one):
my friend made this site and got all co**cky about it and wanted everyone to see it so what he did was he set ALL the browser’s homepage on all the computers in the lab to his page.
he ended up pissing a lot of people off, including me , so I nuked it =).
*Originally posted by hardwarenewbie * We are not allowed to do that in our schools. Because as soon as we log off from the computer they are all set back to normal.
yeah, it’s a good thing grade schools and high schools are catching up to the technological boom of today. =)

**Mediatemple will be the first ones I contact. I like their hosting on Kirupa.com
This site never gets down and the performance is really good. **
Well, according to your stats, you signed up just today. And what can I say, I’m pleased to say that performance today has just been great and the site wasn’t down a single time today. =)
bah, enough prodding. I’m going to bed, right after…
