Yep, my boss was gonna question why my productivity was so high for those first 4 hours work work this morning.
[whisper]//edit, for those that sleep during our time over here the forums were down for 5-6hours.[/whisper]

You are so awesome at apostrophes
^ hehe.
Yeah, I was like ■■■■, k-forum is down, can’t live without them…
Like the majorty… I noticed it. 5 or 6 hours are too many hours. What happened?
The server was overloaded with traffic! It’s good that the LOLcat thread is what is driving a lot of new people :beam:
[COLOR=gray](On a serious note, Apache shut itself down. I’ll make sure that in the future, these things are handled a bit more expeditiously :))[/COLOR]

How come MT didn’t just restart the server for you? The person monitoring all the servers etc must have seen this coming.
Apparently not

Kirupa, I work in a webhosting company… 5-6 hours down due to a post? bufff! It’s very weird… Is a DoS (Denial of service) ruled out? How is the apache error_log? A lot of petitions in a minute during that 5-6 hours?

Glad your back up though :thumb:[/quote]
[whisper]Thats what she said[/whisper]
I was in denial I couldn’t believe it since there’s usually a heads up about down time I was like did someone hack my home :h: but since we had a videoshoot here at the office so I was a bit busy and didnt notice much.
I seriously thought it was the internet here
^A first I thought it was my Internet until faster came crying to me.
yea, and once i figured out it wasn’t Seb’s fault, I blamed templarian, and then the problem got fixed.
shifty eyes
Kirupa was joking.
If you compare up time to down time for a site this big, I’d say MT does a fantastic job.
I figured the site was down for maintenance.
What OS does MT run? It needs something like [w]Service Management Facility[/w] (see last bullet in intro).
No, it wasn’t a DoS. The apache error log clearly shows my system resources going down slowly, and the cause was due to prefork.c values in the Apache configuration being really high.
The forums account for only part of the site’s traffic. Majority of the traffic goes to the non-forum sections.
Just curious, what’re those prefork.c values?
The DV/Rage servers and above on MT don’t have a “person monitoring the server”. You’re supposed to do that yourself ; )
The number of processes that run on the server. I had no idea until someone from MT explained it
