Yeah… I still say it depends upon what you are doing. I know a lady who gardens, and smokes pot. She also takes care of her elderly mother, and manages a house, 2 dogs, excetra. She has to be one of the most productive people I know. The thing is, she enjoys doing what she does.
I’ll admit though that pot and 55 hour work weeks would clash for me. I don’t need much rest, but it’s impossible for me to be 100% at work, if I’m burnt.
to that end, do you have 15 yrs experience as a sober worker? Do you have an additional 15 yrs as a “non-sober” worker? I think not… I do.
Geez I hate preachy statements
Settle down man.
Note the last sentence.
But I know loads of people who are trucking right along, high as hell, and if it’s not holding you back, then more power to ya.
I’m glad that you’re a super-pothead, able to leap tall buildings in a single bonghit, work 60 hours a week while stoned, whatever. If you’ve really been smoking weed for 15 years then you’ve talked to way more people then I have who were making the same claims you make, and you’ve said to yourself “Yeah right. This guy is smoking waaaay too much weed, and probably needs to breathe some fresh air for a second so he can see exactly how much time he’s wasting on the couch.”
My opinion? You’re fooling yourself if you think you’re maximizing your potential while smoking pot daily. Wanna talk facts? Even if you don’t smoke at work, and you’re not “high” at work, it’s still in your system, affecting you however imperceptibly. At some point, if you’re training for the Olympics or whatever, you want to squeeze every last drop of potential you can out of yourself, and we can argue all day long but you’ll never convince me (or anyone else judging objectively) that daily pot smoking doesn’t sap some small percentage of your motivation, however little that percentage is.
Sorry you thought I was being preachy, I’ve been on both sides of this argument and am tired of hearing potheads tell me how smoking herb has no negative side effects…
I love getting stoned just as much (and probably more) then the next guy, but I’m not going to tell you that there isn’t an “equal and opposite” reaction. You can believe whatever you wish.
but then again… do you really think that life is about working at 125% capacity? What sort of life do you have that way? Does it make you happy? Ultimately as long as we are paying our taxes, and getting our work done, no one can ask anything more of us. Maybe 55 - 60 hours of work is good with you. Personly, I like 40 hours of work, 20 hours of hobby, and 10 hours of chore.

**and if you can find 55 - 60 hours worth of hobby that will earn you a living… I’ll bet you could smoke continuously and be working at 125%.
If you do, more power to ya. **
Word.
I also agree that life is not about working at 125%, I’m pretty burnt out right now.
What I was trying to say is that if you’re shooting for 125%, for whatever reason, you’re probably not going to hit it getting stoned every day. Wasn’t assigning a value judgement to that fact, just stating the fact.
I have several friends who earn a living from their hobby (photography, print design, writing, etc.), they seem to be pretty happy people. I’d much rather spend my working hours doing something I like, and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to get there. Nahmean?

**I think we can agree that it is not possible to reach 100% of your maximum productivity level while smoking pot all day, like it or not. **
this statement was what I was disagreeing with. I never said there weren’t negative factors. I was commenting on the judgemental way you stated what you feel is fact.
I’m also not saying that I hit my full potential when high. I did state that I may not be hitting my full potential while sober either.
you can say, “from my experience, a happens,” but other than that, I don’t know of any symptom you can pin on every single person who has/gets high.
and to your “fooling yourself” statement… you have no idea who I am, what I do, and how I work, so I’d step that kind of talk back a bit until you get to know me a lot better, maybe even walked a mile in my moccasins…
try to distinguish between your experiences and fact please.
Our opinions diverge. That’s fine. I think we’ve wore this one out a little bit, so I’m not going to mess around with the whole rebuttal thing. Plus, it’s friday night, I’m about to mix up some margaritas and head out to the galleries.
Nice photos on your site, BTW. I was hoping you had a blowup of the one taken on infrared slide film, it’s very evocative of something I can’t quite pin down…

I’ll go back to choche or shrooms before I ever smoke weed again. . . .
Just my personal preference, coke is much more addicting I have to admit, but after shrooms I can’t trip as well on chronic, unless it’s some really dank crazy *** one time in a lifetime blunt laced with ‘something’.
“Yeah man, like, think about cotton, man. I mean, you know, the touch, the feel? Those Dupont guys are up to no good, man. **** I got some cotton-mouth bro, you got any soda?”

the exhuberance of youth mocks the cynical mind of the experienced…
Geez, Corey, do you always post with a snide comment?
