What advanced scripting is involved?

Hi! I THINK this is actionscripting, if it isnt can someone please direct me to where to post this again?

I havent made a Flash movie in a few months and was surfing the net seeing what’s new and also trying to get some new ideas. I came upon this menu at a website and have since been searching for how in the heck did they do two things in it. 1) They made the text animate like it was someone writing it (Ive seen other Flash movies do this but i figured out in those that the person took the easy way out and just inserted an animated gif, which made the movie huge in size and i dont want to do it the ‘easy’ way!) and also the menu itself is some sort of combination of mouserollovers and such. Can anyone, after checking it out, tell me just what the heck would be involved in these two things, or if there were any tutorials to help me out (believe me, ive been searching!)? The link (menu at top):

Thanks for any help at all, it would be MUCH appreciated!!
Jen

the drawing text is a mask effect

the menu has an easing and scaling effect, with buttons with a mc that plays on roll over.

there´s no single tut that cover all of this, but here at kirupa you can learn all of them in multiple tutorials.

=)

I was thinking that it MIGHT have been a masking effect, thanks very much! Now to find a good tutorial on that to refresh my memory on how to do it again!

on your part about the menu what is a MC?

Thanks very much!!!
Jen

Welcome to Kirupa boards JenniferSal! Hope you enjoy here.

mc is short for movie clip.

=)

Oh! Duh, sorry and ive even made buttons with movie clips in prior times too! Gosh, ive only not done Flash for only a few short months, did some advanced stuff with ease then and i feel like such a newbie again! Thank goodness for tutorials, i just gotta find the right ones  ! Take care and thanks so much!!

I’d be curious to see how you animate the text with a mask :o Care to post an example, guig0?

pom (-:

Sure! give me a time and I whip up something for ya.

don´t expect some hi-level as, cause it will be none in there:P

=)

Very simple stuff. Keep in mind that this fla is just for ilustrate.

All right, but what’s the use of the mask here? Actually, I couldn’t see anything until I deactivated it

plz, explain yoursef sir.

:q:

I had to unmask the layer.

Sure. Did you tested the movie?

I was surprised when you asked me to show you this example. Be fair, you were expecting some AS mask effect, right?

=)

Nope, I wasn’t expecting scripted masks, I was just wondering how you intended to pull this off  as I had no idea how to do it :stuck_out_tongue:

When someone doesn´t have the AS-Wisdom, that you do, he has tho cheat a lil bit:P

[EDIT]correct spelling

how on earth did you do that?!
i dunno how to with or wihtout AS you wouldn’t mind explaining the theory behind that would u…!?

unlock the mask layer, and look frame by frame.
You´ll notice that the visible portion of the content on the txt layer is exactly what is behind the green fill on the mask layer.

Mask layers works that way, whichever layers is nested below is kept invisible, except what is behind the fill on the mask layer, if there is nothing on the mask layer then nothing will be visible.

Did I make myself clear:q:

ahhh yeaa…i get it…so how’d u make the frames in the mask layer?! ( i bet its a simple answer but i just can’t think of it at the moment :*( )

copy/paste the text, break it apart, erasing one by one.

=)

i knew it was simple…=)
anywayz thanks hehe<:}

glad you get it:)
