Which font should I use for? (12px)

Reading white 12px Arial text against blue background isn’t clear, a bit blurred. What can I do? Change the font?

Actually, black 12px Arial on white background looks fine…but not white text on blue background.

try using pixel fonts you can download some freebies from www.fontsforflash.com, www.miniml.com, www.orgdot.com/aliasfonts. Just follow the guidelines in using them and you’ll have crisp easy to read fonts in your flash designs. You can also download the guilines from www.fontsforflash.com .

The 3 biggest factors with fonts in Flash are:

Use pixel fonts

Set the size in multiples of 8 (8, 16, 24…etc.)

And…Use “left-aligned” centered on the pixel (Make sure the x and y coordinates in Property Inspector are “whole” numbers…no decimals)

Oh well, there’s no reasonable size as size 8px and 16px are either too small or too big!

The problem is that I’m looking for pixel font of 12px that looks similar to Arial font. Any luck?

What you need is a pixel font that at either 8 or 16 is the same relative size of Arial 12…:wink:

use verdana at 12px… looks cool (actually it’s the font on this website. And on most websites)

These pixel fonts are great but why 8px? I cannot use these fonts and change them to 12px as they’re intended for 8px use. Also they’re so tiny which would leave the content space looking empty! I’m sure 12px or 14px is the most common used fonts for website??

I read somewhere (I can’t remember where) for the reasoning behind it, and long forgotten why, but it’s true…Try it you’ll see…

If you insist on trying to use “regular” fonts [COLOR=dark blue]this[/COLOR] tutorial will get them as best as they can get.

But, to get “the most legible text” stick to the pixel fonts…:wink:
