Why is it always this way?

You can sit around for weeks, doing little but makework, then most of your new site clients decide at once that they want to soft launch in the same week…

I mean do these guys get together and plan this?

Life is full of “hurry up and wait.” At least they will both pay at the same time…

thanks for letting me vent…

Rev

[edit] I changed the first link to go directly to my contribution[/edit]

Whoa rev, good job on those sites, especially the ayoungkim.com one because of the toned videos! The bouncy text on Auto Wraps was cool too, btw what did you use for those videos to import into flash with a low file size?

that’s what it’s like where i work. One week you’re talking it easy and the next it’s like “SURPRISE!! We want everything this week!!!”

Of course they collaborate on such things  They wouldn’t be able to make you stressed out and miserable if they didn’t.

Dan:

thanks. I used Adobe Premier to break the .mov into jpegs, then imported into Firworks, did a batch process to convert them to a 4 color gif. Then I threw away every other image, then changed the colors in each frame. Then I imported into Flash, deleted as many images as I dared, and then have them loading in a separate swf so load is minimalized. They are still 150k…

pinx:

lol - I tend to plan my stuff out better. that way I am not short of money (I’m independent).

lost:

I agree. I think they all get together in some chat room just to conspire against me…

:chinaman:

Rev

Rev, I know what you mean, last month all I’ve been doing is fart around the office and all of a sudden this month, the client’s roll in and it’s like they expect the work to be done at the same time too!!

Yup…

always seems to happen at once. They all seem to be late on their deliverables at the same time, so you are always waiting…

then Kaboom, they all give you their deliverables at once, and expect you to keep your original time table…

oh well, better this than no business at all…

Rev

That is true, I’m glad there’s work coming in because I still have my student loan to pay off… sigh :frowning:

I just put in a proposal for a $50k 6 month gig…

hope they bite…

It will be a lot of hard work in a short amount of time, but it would be great on the resume…

Rev

hey rev love the new chef smiley! :beam:

joins chat room to conspire against Rev

“And make sure the deadline is THIS Monday! thats right! i don’t give a dam if its sunday at 9:00pm i want this done by MONDAY MORNING!!! he has MORE than ALMOST 12 HOURS!!! HOW MUCH TIME COULD HE possibly want for a 100ph website”

logs off chat room to conspire against EG and his farting around office

I kinda phigger’d you were the organizer of my chaos…

there’s a phunny story about that smiley…

Rev

Care to share that story :q: :beam:

maybe one of these days…

:wink wink:

Rev

rev… it’s par for the course… but I guess you know that well enough. The other thing they do that is anoying as hell is when they start a project, get you on board and then sit on their asses discussing it for months without giving the final approval to go ahead. My fiance has three jobs on her plate and hasn’t been able to do anything with them for two months because the companies just haven’t finalized anything yet.

ggggrrrrrroooooowwwwllllll

sometimes it just helps to snarl and growl like a wild beast.

that problem of yours doesn´t happen to me very often… it happen all the time! :stuck_out_tongue:

joking…every now and them a client like that appears on the way, but it´s a ‘client’ nonetheless. and at least you still can see the bright side in that, PAYTIME! =)
good job on the sites rev, you´re like a designer´s cheff, if you get my meaning

and… you got me curious about the smilie thang… any topic related to rev or smilies interests me, a topic with rev and smilies together… :beam: :q:

I guess it’s not as bad when you’re employed by a company permanently, as the pay cheque comes in at the end of each month regardless.

The most difficult bit is concealing the lull times - trying to look busy when you’ve got sweet FA to do, but can’t be obviously dossing around…

There is an art to this.

But then of course, they dump a whole load of stuff on you at once. Typical. :-\

I don’t get that problem anymore… Now that most of the companies around here have a website now lol

But I did get swamped when I first started… I had to do 5 websites in like the very first month I went in… I was like Holy Bolognuts Barfunkle.

But needlesstosay. The old saying applies here…

“It is better to be busy and hearty dull with afilled stomach, than bored and playful with an empty stomach.”

Trust me on that one… I know… hehe

I know, I was just venting…

David:

that is exactly what I’m talking about. They sit around, never giving the okay. Then when they do, they want it done yesterday.

Guigo:

It was a stupid incident with the smiley… Some day after a few Ketel Ones…

Rev

sniffs

Is that chicken I smell cooking?

Mmmmm…

marz…

Smells like chicken, tastes like chicken…

… not chicken…
