Hey guys, how’s it goin!? I think i’ve finished my first draft of a project i’ve been working on

Please check it out and let me know what you think

Well it’s very pixelrangerish. His old site was very very similar. I also see a lot of old school 2advanced designs in there. I dunno, it feels very 2001ish to me.

I think other old schoolers will agree.

it seems broken to me :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you need more of your work incorporated as the site seems bland :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed, the logo (especially bottom right – its almost identical) and the curvy bulge, and the overall atmosphere is very borderline ripoff of pixel ranger’s old site

there is also some fantasy interactive inspiration, but inspiration is different from ripping

i think its ok overall, but you have by no means impressed me

On a plusnote I think the site looks good.

On a negative note I think that everyone that’s in the business will realize what Digi and Faster just said.

So you have a good site that everyone that looks at will realize you took most of the inspiration and ideas from somewhere else. Bit of a dilemma ; )

I don’t know what pixel ranger is, so judging from a fresh perspective I think it looks good.

A couple things perplexed me. Like why does the info box fall after a couple seconds? To get people to look down? I don’t think that’s necessary since the layout makes that obvious to begin with. Also making “interactive” and “graphics design” link to portfolio felt a bit random. The plain dark blue boxes in the news box don’t match the rest of the design. At first I thought it was flash, but I’m glad that it’s javascript since this layout doesn’t need flash really. The boxes on the portfolio page have up arrows but they don’t do anything? Also no links to more info?

Yeah, very Pixelranger to me too, that was the first thing I thought of.

Woah, i never actually intended on it being similar to anything  I just wanted to create an easy going site with a bit of atmosphere. Problem i had was the site looked a bit narrow - and i’ve always had a thing for widescreen images etc - so to get round it i widened the whole thing, but then it looked too chunky down the page on lower res screens. So i tried making just the top wider and that seemed to look real nice.

It’s not that it’s a ripoff or anything, it’s just that site was really well known, so I think the whole “bulge at top” thing is sort of branded to Shane Mielke at this point - which isn’t really fair.

like i said, the logo, the atmosphere, its all very similar

*edit, looks like you edited/removed original logo

It’s not really that similar, minus the bulge at the top. Thanks for the constructive comments.

It’s more the point of denying obvious inspiration. You obviously used a lot of 2A, pixel ranger techniques in the design work not only on your website but in the actually design work showcased in the website. To come back and say you’ve never heard of your obvious inspiration, makes you look like a fool IMO and really throws your credibility down the tubes.

Sorry just being honest.

Defensive much?

It’s possible for two people to come up with the same idea seperately. I’m not speaking for him, but you can’t come to such a conclusion.
Original logo? lol. It was merely just a sign i put there to fill space until i had decided what content to put in the footer.

It’s not really that similar, minus the bulge at the top. You sound really bitter. Thanks for the constructive comments. If everyone was like you, i daren’t think what the web would look like. Everyone getting moaned at for designing something similar to something else. :stare:
Bitter? Oh, I’m sorry rainbows don’t shoot out of my anus everytime I type a message on a forum.

And if more people were like me, there would be more substantial critiques and feedback in this forum, do some research before you try and act big

Yes let’s all buy our sites at templatemonster.com and rejoice. You post a site in a critique forum, that’s what you’ll get. Critique. “Your site looks identical to this site: xxx” IS critique, believe it or not.

If you don’t want to hear peoples comments, keep it to yourself.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. Of course it’s possible, but what’s the probability that he came up with the pixel ranger look and feel and just happen to come up with the 2Advanced logo and small text type look in his designs?

I’m not bashing him for that, I’m bashing him for acting as if he never heard of either of them. Sorry I don’t buy it, you can, but I don’t. I’ve seen it and heard it all before.

Too many similarities for me to believe there wasn’t inspiration there.
