Windows 2000 AS - need help

Ugh. I’m so tired of this %µ$^@ Windows 2000 Advanced Server crap I have to configure at work.

I need to make this server available for Remote Desktop Access. The server is working with Windows 2000 AS, the other computers with Windows XP Prof.
Before formatting the server, people here could connect via their Win XP laptop to the Win2K server with their built-in XP feature “Remote Desktop Control”. All I can find online is how to connect from Win2K to WinXP… or from XP to XP… and I’m searching how to connect from XP to 2000. I need to make this server accept incoming remote accesses. AAAARGH!!

Can someone help? :frowning:

Oh yeah, I installed the “Remote Desktop Control” feature on the Win2K server via the Win XP CD. But this only works from 2K to XP. Ugh.

Sounds like you need to setup a VPN server. That accepts incomming calls and logs them into the domain.

Cheers!

Dude, you need two things to remote into a 2000 server.

  1. a client (remote desktop for XP will work fine, I use it)

  2. setup Terminal Services on the server. Go through the wizard, it’s a cakewalk.

Start->settings->Control Panel->add/remove programs->add/remove windows components-> check the Terminal Services box. Set it up for remote administration, not application server mode. That’s it!

It works now, thanks. =)
