This is probably a stupid question one of which I should have asked years ago.
Hopefully there is an easy solution to something that bothers the living hell out of me.
Is there a way to prevent applications (that are already installed) from just deciding they should be the default application to open a particular file?
For instance:
I love oldchool winamp for my .mp3’s (V 2.81) just very comfortable with it and I don’t like change. Every month or so I go to my music folder and Real Player has decided on its own that it should be my default player of .mp3 files.
So I have to go to win/explorer --> Tools --> folder options --> file types… blah blah blah just to change it back to winamp.
I have to do this every month or so.
I mean seriously - real player sucks my arse, the last thing I want to see when opening my music is a friggin ad for the company providing me the vehicle to do so - but you need it for the random .rm files you come across.
Another instance that bothers me is Quicktime. You need it for .mov files obviously but it takes over .mpg files as well in Firefox. Even though windows tells you Media player is batting for you. So when you go to watch a video it plays it in a tiny little box on a new tab. Media player is smooth because it gives you the good ol view at 200% option.
The only way I have found to use media player in firefox is totally uninstall Quicktime… there has to be a way around this.
sorry for the half rant - but this issue bothers me bigtime - any suggestions?
