WIP :: Mercedes SLR 2005

I tried to get into 3D work about 4 weeks ago but i just gave up and stuck to flash/photoshop and my normal web making stuff! 3d is way too crazy

Ok, I quit too. LOL

The view is spinning like crazy… it’s hard to get a good render of it when it’s spinning this fast. Anyway… I’ve been trying to get the rims to look like rims but they ain’t working out for me so far. Tomorrow I’ll post another update with a back view just for you unclesond!

Here’s an update again. The next thing I will be working on is those clean sharp edges all around the car.

WOW!
Really awsome! :thumb:

oh my god, it’s so awesome that words can’t even describe.

Well, I don’t know about that kdd… but thanks anyway.
Thanks for your reply too joppe. That’s the things that keep me going!

Another update. Sharpened the edges all around.

hey are you going to do flip-up doors, too? :stuck_out_tongue:

very very clean indeed . . . the mesh is awesome . . . I can’t see any segmentation on it . . .
I am impressed seeing how you have only been doing this a short time. you definately have the modelers touch.
keep it up, . . this is going to be an interesting build

Verry verry cool! :thumb:
I wish that i was that good!
Btw; I never model that way… is it better?

Spline modeling and sub-d poly modeling are just a different way to get to point B. Mostly they are used to model organic shapes. IE . . models with curves and smooth flowing lines. You wouldn’t want to model a Box this way because a box generally has hard edges so organic modeling would tae you away from your objective. I mean sure you can model the box the apply a weight map to the mesh but that would be more effort than what is nessasary. . . . . . Is it better? no, just different.

What he said ^

Thanks for all the wicked comments people!
I don’t think I’ll do the flip-up doors… But the again I might surprise myself and do em anyway.

Due to some activities during the weekend and today I didn’t have a lot of time to model. I’ve changed quite a bit of the mesh, not very noticeable. So it’s a small update but with a better mesh.

This is what I did:

  • worked on the door / windows
  • added a crease on the nose where the logo should be
  • added a crease on the trunk together with the brakelight in the middle
  • added the exhaust pipes on the side

kickass!

Is rainman up to his old magic again??

He’s crazy. Reef, haven’t seen you in a while… What happened to your avatar/siggy?

It makes him all mysterious and stuff.

Btw: I just received my Discovery Edition (demo) of LightWave. :thumb2:

Wow rainman, man thats just awsome!!!

:thumb: Yeah LightWave!
Currently im trying to learn it too and i love it!
I used to work with 3ds max, but LW is way nicer

Kewl wizard. No show us some stuff!

~Reef, do you know something I don’t… :h: Thanks man!

Added some wheels to it. The tyre is just something I put on it so there’s something there. Need to find a good tutorial on how to create tyres like the one I need. Any idea’s someone? Anyone?

Cool . . another Lightwaver . . . :thumb:
Rainman, this is definately looking top shelf . . . .
can’t wait to see it with a new coat of paint . . . and chrome rims . . .
