Hey all,
Here’s a wee site that i’ve updated. Not done completely in flash but the menu is. Tell me your thoughts…Maybe the navigation isn’t obvious enough?etc.etc.

Can anyone tell me why the gallery.html shows in Firefox but not in Explorer?

Hey buildrebuild,

just took a look at your site, I like the space invaders themed navigation, but I think you’re right it’s a little too subtle… maybe changing the color of the ship or the fonts or something would help. In the same vein I think the size of your fonts in the navigation are set too small and so they are I slightly distorted. Making the fonts a few points bigger and in a color other than red would make the whole nav system more clear too.

I checked your gallery and it showed in both Firefox and IE for me. Clicking on the images though didn’t work, I didn’t get a pop up window. I don’t know much about javascript but I’ve got code something like this in my Flash movie:

If you google it I’m sure you’ll find the right code you need.

The colors are a “little” too garish.

Get that big bold Verdana font out for headings like “Gigs” etc. and replace it images containing the word “Gigs” and all with subtle FX like a subtle glow or somethin to make the edges softer.

About the background, that plain red is just too hurtful to the eyes. Make some sorta grunge art background using the same color theme but a LOT softer.

The navigation is just something completely vague and neither does it show the menu items, nor does it show a pop-up.

The MP3 player has fonts so ugly and so small that it’s impossible to read what it’s saying.

About the preloader, change that too… That blinkinb thing is just yukk.

The layout is ok I guess though.

[EDIT]: Oh yea, now I see you menu items interacting and showing the titles in the top-left corner. Good enough. Change the Times font however. If you want a “footed” font, there are plenty other such fonts available for free which look 100x better than that.

Plus, since the site is for a band, why don’t you put a banner with the band’s name on it or somethin. I mean, The first place (after searching everywhere else) was at the end of the page in very small letters saying: “Sign up for Astromech news”. Give them some recognition dude!

yeah at first i had a hard time finding the menu
and change the font like thelonephoenix for the News and Gigs and the mp3 player

but i like the colors

wholy u have some seriuos IE problems…

Thanks everyone for the feeds,
Will take it all onboard. IE doesn’t like the javascript I’ve used to open the images up in a popup window.
As for Fonts etc, I’ll take a look about.

im in IE didn’t notice problems off hand though that was part of the grunge look. Like the colours and look and feel. seems a bit empty in some places though.

I’m a total wab 'cos I just tested the site in a different machine which doesn’t have the same fonts as mine and realised that the fonts are small 'cos I used published the fla with dynamic text and not static, so the movie uses the clients fonts. Oh well, there’s a lesson learnt!
Gona sort a ASTROMECH logo or good font for the header…

Any ideas or mock ups?
