Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum but I’ve been coming to Kirupa for quite some time.
I’m seeking advice/opinions about the pay I receive at my current job. Am I being underpaid? Is my wage reasonable for my situation? Any thoughts & suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Brief history. I’m 21 years old and I’ve been interested in web design since I was 13. I graduated high school in 2005, and was awarded first place in a Pennsylvania state competition for web design. That same year, I was offered a part time job at a healthcare company mostly doing graphic design for education content ($8/hour). I quickly started branching off my duties to prove I had knowledge in the field. I then went full time and am currently at $14.25/hour, 3 weeks paid vacation time, dental/health insurance, 401k, and I have my own office among the president/ceos of the company. I am the web department here, it’s just me. I learned Coldfusion on the job, with some help from a web designer who worked on the first page.
My duties include…
Web design (I completely redesigned the page, and maintain it)
Graphic design
Animation (flash, example animations such: conductive system of the heart)
Video editing (education seminars, pig heart dissections)
Application design (homegrown LMS, staff scheduler/calendar, shopping carts, discussion forums)
Managing web server (Microsoft SQL / Coldfusion server)
Building e-learning courses
Assisting staff with their computers & software
I love my job, I really do. I just feel like I should be paid more for how much I do. Although, I do recognize that I’m lucky to be in such a position without having a degree. For a while, I was getting a $2 raise every 4 months – kind of as I took on more endeavors. This hasn’t happened in 7 months. L
So what’s the verdict? Ask for a raise? Hold out and see what happens? Or be grateful that I even have a job?
Thanx!!!
Oh, and here is the site: www.healthworksonline.cc . Unfortunutly most of the content/applications are on the back end of the page (you’d have to pay to see/be an employee).
