Animation polish can quietly eat the budget

I keep noticing that a lot of UI animation looks great in demos and then starts feeling expensive once you use it for real. The extra polish is nice, but it can turn into a tax on load time, battery, and even attention.

Has anyone found a point where the motion is actually helping comprehension instead of just making the product feel more expensive?

motion helps most when it’s doing spatial bookkeeping, not showing off — like a drawer sliding out from the button you tapped so your brain doesn’t have to hunt for where it came from.

the stuff that starts feeling expensive is the long easing and little overshoot on things you do all day, like opening filters or switching tabs. have you tried just shortening the repeat animation, or does the team want every transition to feel like a tiny hero shot?
