eh, maybe later. I would have to find my notebook…
Lol, you writting this stuff down? I’ve been trolling kirupa since 9 this morning, it’s been like 5 hours. I’m such a slacker at work.
=)
I usually write down my ideas so I can later look back on them and re-work them, and rethink everything. I have 3 or 4 notebooks full of ideas and beliefs and theories…
Lol, smart Jubba. I don’t, I keep random crap in my head. And sometimes, if I think up something, usually when I’m asleep, I scribble it down somewhere. No notebooks for me, too much hassel.
=)
Interesting and thought provoking responses people. I have enjoyed this conversation quite a bit. (probebly because Phil isn’t here.) I look forward to sharing ideas with you both again soon.
yeah, this convo was definitely insightful.
This convo really opened me up more. :thumb:
=)
Max, please find me the commandment that says someone must go to church.
Also, max how old are you and how deep have you gone into the sciences and theology? I’d just like to know, cause I find it extremely arogant if someone who is still on a high school level of science and has barely looked into theology starts insulting a religion and calling it “propaganda” every other post.
Agreed - no need to negatively categorize any religion. There are people of various faiths and beliefs here; it’s better to be accommodative you know

Third Commandment : Remember to keep holy the Sabbath Day.
Sabbath for Christians means Sunday. This means to go to mass on Sunday but it does not have to be neccessarly Sunday. Although Sunday is still the day on which most people go to church, masses are held everyday and as long as you go once a week then your ok… well you can do more than that, but I don’t think most of you want to.
not all Christians…
some believe that their Sabbath is Saturday, some Monday…
Being a Christian, is someone who believes that Jesus was/is the Son of God. That is all.
and where does it say that going to mass is the only way to keep the Sabbath Day holy? Nowhere.
it is all open to interpretation, by the individual.
religeon is subjective.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God.
first off, this is the fourth commandment. Second, I still fail to see the part that says you have to go to church.
keep it holy
supposedly, Christians are obligated to rest and worship God; the latter being done by going to church.
…you know, i really can’t say anything else about this. I’m as stumped as you are.
Embarrassed
Nali, Kirupa, and to anyone else that feels offended, sorry.
I may have gone over the line with my opinions. But those are only my opinions. I don’t think I’m “insulting” religion, my opinions maybe insulting, and I regret that you had to read that.
And as for what we’re talking about. Worshipping God by going to church is normal for theists. But keep in mind that I’m coming from an atheist point of view.
=)
blah blah. anyway something worth of interest:

Mithra, Sungod of Persia
The story of Mithra precedes the Christian fable by at least 600 years. According to Wheless, the cult of Mithra was, shortly before the Christian era, “the most popular and widely spread ‘Pagan’ religion of the times.” Mithra has the following in common with the Christ character:
- Mithra was born on December 25th.
- He was considered a great traveling teacher and master.
- He had 12 companions or disciples.
- He performed miracles.
- He was buried in a tomb.
- After three days he rose again.
- His resurrection was celebrated every year.
- Mithra was called “the Good Shepherd.”
- He was considered “the Way, the Truth and the Light, the Redeemer, the Savior, the Messiah.”
- He was identified with both the Lion and the Lamb.
- His sacred day was Sunday, “the Lord’s Day,” hundreds of years before the appearance of Christ.
- Mithra had his principal festival on what was later to become Easter, at which time he was resurrected.
- His religion had a Eucharist or “Lord’s Supper”
So a god did just about everything Jesus was meant to have done but 600 years before Jesus was supposedly born!!! Another couple of dozen major and minor gods share a lot of traits with Jesus and were around before him.

Since we are bringing up correlations, (I admit that I don’t have all the information in front of me like Vts.) Check out the story of Krishna. I know, he’s gotten a really bad name from his Har Krishna’s, but really, Krishna was a very cool son of God. Again, his story predates BOTH Christanity and Mithra worship by many centuries. It’s worth taking a look at this fabled character. The correlations between the “Krist” and the “Christ” are eerie.
Correlations though make a lot of sense for a Religion that is based upon a “living” document. The objective as I see it, was to make it easy for the various cultures to worship the son of God. The correlations are most obviously internaly created when we consider that the “star of Bethlehem(sp?)” was only in the correct place in the sky during July, the year of Jesus’ birth.
Nice stuff btw Edwin. That’s a really nice comprehensive list of correlations between those two. I cannot remember for the life of me if it was the “Krist” or Mithra who was also heralded into mortal life by a comet in the north sky which led wise men to the site of the birth. I know one of those demi gods had that origin myth.
man… it’s been too long since I studied this stuff… it’s all slipping from my memory. (Flash stuff no doubt pushing everything else into the darkness. )
Vts, what religion are you?
=)
nice link jubba.
hadn’t heard it put that way before.
