Australian Identity

Heyas.

I’ve been given for school an assignment which requires us to gather information about the Australian Identity from any source and present it in a speech. So I’d like to ask everyone if they could please share their views on what they think the Australian Identity is.

I’ll provide more information if you don’t quite understand, just say so.

Thankyou.

i guess gather information on what makes us Australian, probably our culture, way of living, night life. country and city life, sports that sorta stuff i guess.

Very True David

:: maybe you can talk about multiculturalism, but thats more about australia than australians.

I think most countries have an identity. It’s harder to pick one specific element for countries that are melting pots. Australia has many different ethnicities much like the U.S. When that happens it’s usually the major historical events and or pop-culture events that lead to the branding of an identity.

Thanks for all of your replies guys, but other than movie stars, what do you see us Aussies as?

Easy going, talented, beer swilling magic people. Who’s prime minister kisses the *** of redneck political dicatators, and refuses to say sorry.

Most people see Aussies as tough. Someone you wouldn’t want to get into a fight with.

Like Mick Dundee! “That’s not a knife … this is a knife!”

Outback Steakhouse - No Rules, Just Right

The EAC dude! And the great barrier reef … great white sharks too!

Animals that time forgot

the platypus, the kangaroo, koalas, wombats, possums, frilled neck lizzards…and more

I wouldn’t mention the rugby though.

If you can get a copy of Bill Bryson’s book Notes From Down Under (or something like that), you’ll find a lot of good stuff in there about how people perceive the Australian nation and people.
