Did I do the right thing?

Ok so last night at about 12:30, I went looking for my 14 year old brother because I needed him to burn some cd’s while I am at work today. He wasn’t in his bed and he wasn’t anywhere in the house either. The front door was still locked but the side door was open. He had snuck out of the house. So I left the door open for him and went to sleep in his bed. When he got back, I asked him where he was and he said he was just at the park with a friend and they weren’t doing anything stupid. I told him I wouldn’t tell our parents but that next time he was locked out. Did I do the right thing?

Is his friend a good kid?

Is your brother a good kid, or does he go against your Mom & Dad?

Is it safe in your neighborhood at night?

and Finally, How would your parents react, if they knew?

then I’ll give my opinion…

Rev

My brother is a pretty good kid respectively I suppose. He is a seminar kid with good grades who fights with parents but everyone does. His friend isn’t quite as good. He isnt a punk or anything but I wouldn’t fully trust him. Neighborhood is pretty quiet and safe, no real crime and if my parents knew, he would be skinned and his head put on a post. Another thing, we leave for a family vacation tomorrow and I didn’t want to ruin that (Cancun  ).

well I think you made a good decision, especially with the trip haning in the balance.

With that said - it does sound like your parents would be very happy if they were to find out and it also doesnt sound like your brothers friend is someone you could count on to make the right desicion if it came down to it.

What I would do is tell your brother, much like you did - that the next time you will tell on him and that the only reason you didnt this time is because you didnt want to ruin the vacation for everyone. He should know that rules are there and that you have to follow them so as should he. The worst thing you can do is go off on him and make him mad becaus ehe will do it again - just try and reason with him and let him know it’s not right and if it happens again you will have to let your folks know what’s up.

I think that you should tell your parents. Your brother might have been doing drugs or something like that, and if he was, then it would be for his own good.

well, i’ve had nearly same experiences. i would always wait up for my sister to come home. one time she came home really wasted and was feeling sick. I helped her get better and then put her in bed and everything, with my parents sleeping in the other room. i wouldn’t even think of telling them.

unless i know that she’s doing something stupid, like drugs or **** like that or hanging out with *******s, yeah then i would speak up. but, if all she did was drink (which we have all done at some time when we were 16), there’s no reason for me to ratt on her.

I am 99 percent certain it wasnt anything too dumb. Definately wasnt drugs alchohol or cigarettes, I would have been able to tell when he walked in. It was just the excitement i guess of going out at night when he wasnt supposed to

then you got nothing to worry about.

I think you did okay.

Hopefully, you scared the spit out of him. Next time, don’t tell him you are telling your parents, but try to catch them in a receptive mood, and explain why you are telling them this, and to find out why he is sneaking around, and not talking to your parents. In my opinion, that is the thing to focus on, why he sneaks out (essentially lying) on your parents. Very disrespectful, and can lead to your parents not trusting him… You may also want to try to explain this to your brother… although that may not sink in yet…

Rev

ha especially if he’s 14. everybody older is wrong.

no one just sneaks out to see their friends. its to do something they’re not supposed to do. thats how it works.

Actually I used to sneak out, but I just snuck out to see my friends. :stuck_out_tongue:

I know exactly what he was doing. . . .

  1. Having sex with transvestite prostites.
  2. Smoking cigarettes.
  3. Smoking weed out of an empy honey container.
  4. Snorting coke with a rolled up $100 bill he took from your wallet.
  5. Inducing a mass murder on the homeless.
  6. Chewing on a licorice rope.
  7. Impregnating farm animals, excluding chickens.
  8. Sewing a blanket around a homosexual supported campfire party.
  9. Making the Heavens Gate II pudding.
  10. Puking molted blood from all the alcohol he had.

You should be scared for him, very scared.
