Graphics Software

I just got a new pute for my friend that runs MX and he wants some software for image manipulation.

Nothing to fancy just for getting photos off his digital camera and putting red horns on his girlfriend head is Photoshop too much for this or Paint shop pro to basic .

Opinions anyone?

try paint shop pro… not too expensice…

otherwise, try googlin’ it

you can get a cheaper version of photoshop, called photoshop elements. check it out.

Yeah, i would go with elements over Paintshop Pro… but Photoshop is soooooooo good =D

indeed :thumb:

the money isn’t a problem as I have underspent on my budget this year to date by about 600K. Its all about the gravy and how dificult it is for a technoweenie to pick up Photoshop

photoshop is easy, either way you have to learn this program if you want to get into any sort of design industry in the near future.

Photoshop is all about trial and error , and to start you off there is enough tutorials for any user. Once you get the main concept of photoshop and how it works, you will start making Uhh and Ohhh sounds instead of Whaaa?? and Huhhh! :stuck_out_tongue:

start where I started, www.phong.com

hey dont count out PSP. Version 8 is bomb!! But elements is cool also for you friend it sounds like. But he will quickly tire of just placing horns and stuff…Miss Cleo says: I see photoshop in your future.

Nah he’s into horns in a big way. Big red evil shiny smooth horns!

PS is as hard to learn as you want it to. Start by basic stuff and then move to more difficult tasks…

I bought PSP 3years ago (think its v6 or 7) and I still use it when I need to do pixel works…

And PS elements is good though if your switch from PS to PS elements it is a bit confusing to find all the image options…

If money is of no concern I would just go with Photoshop. Its got the basic tools there for people familar with pretty much any image editing program, it has the layer styles that can punch out a quick “cool drop shadow” and stuff for someone that doesnt know that much. Plus the knowledge will build for when they want to stop making horns and start making awesome graphics. And I second the www.Phong.com, thats where it all begins. Unless you are already going to a school that offers good photoshop classes… but heck, I started early high school and now I’m in college and the curriculum still hasnt “caught up” to my level… I’m starting to think college is going to be a huge waste of time… So back on topic: Photoshop.

thanks Photoshop it is then

funny that about College isent it APDesign, I had the same situation, but my problem was with every app they were teaching i already knew. My advice if your finding collage a waste of time, dont look at it as i already know photoshop i can breeze through it, try to develop a style that is yours in the time you have to spare, try to push your own boundaries.

and as much as it seems like a waste of time, collage is a good learning process of the basic structure of design and its rights and wrongs. Design is not always about software.

He’s not going to College hes buying a computer

Yeah I know… the problem is I’m being taught stuff like how to make links in dreamweaver… its really ridiculous. I could have tested out of these classes when I was like a freshman in high school. I think it will get better, and this is only my first semester… but I have my doubts. I’ve pretty much come to the realization that anything I want to learn is going to be self taught, it really is the only way to keep an edge on anyone else. It is kind of sad to see the people struggling with this basic stuff though, I don’t know how they are going to manage if things ever pick up.

(I know Laslett, I just decided to get completely off topic, sorry :D)

Whoa there no need to appologise my good fellow!

I think I mis-interpreted the thread.

I 'm just trying to get some software together for the pute.

We are talking a real unadvanced user here so I’m going for a basic as possible software thats faily easy to pick up

Going off topic makes many of these threads interesting

ppl have already said it, but if $$$ is no issue, go with PS because it has got the advanced stuff as well as the basic things. Sure it seems daunting at first, and i still think that some of the techniques/processses are counter-intuitive but you can learn them without too much difficulty because there are soooo many tutes out there.
and IF there is ever the desire to do more graphics stuff, you can :stuck_out_tongue:
