No matter what i do it will not let me do SELECT—>MODIFY---->CONTRACT (by 15 pixels)

How can I tell you there’s something wrong in this tutorial?! I’ve just done it! Let me take a look at this psd… (PS is on my other PC so I have to run upstairs…) brb… :-\
rofl, I’ve just worked it out. Does it or does it not say, at the start
First of all you’ll have to start off by making a new image. I made a new file, 350 x 350 pixels (we’ll minimize the image at the end…), transparent backround, RGB mode.
did you do that? no.
With this tutorial it’s very important to make the letters really big, and then minimize the text when you are finished to get the full effect!

the reason no pixels were selected is because your font is so small/thin… that contracting a selection by 15 pixels really means there are no pixels to select!! contracting your selection on that font, at that size means the selection would come out the other side of the letters as it were.
so it really is a case of following the instructions to the letter :trout:
Ok i have 3 layers, just like it says.
Layer 1 has the text,
Layer 2 has the darker foreground colour with stroke changes
Layer 3 is mean to have the white shadow.
We are supposed to be applying the changes to layer 3, but there is nothing in layer 3 to apply any effect to.
If i try doing it to layer 1 or 2 it wont let me either
ahh i see what you mean.
But i don’t want just the letter “a”
I need a whole line.
Do you sugest doing it one by one? Or just keeping it at what it is but making the text very big?
What size is “big” cos i am using point 60 :-\
And my font is no good?

I used font size 225 when I did mine. you have to consider the fact that you’ll be resizing considerably afterwards (to around 60%). If you want a long line, then you’ll have to make it really huge. Otherwise you’ll have to do it one by one 
The font is ok… it just has to be a lot bigger

half the time u dont even need to make a new layer. usually when it tells me to create a new layer or dupe it i just skip that dupe or new bit. it turns out fine for me!
Just ask me and i can show you some of the photoshop 7 works i have done!
