Having difficulty using a ps tutorial!

I have photoshop 7, but NEVER use it. Now i want to create an awesome chrome text effect and spend ages finding a tutorial with the correct quality.

http://www.eyesondesign.net/pshop/chrometext/chrometext.htm

Except i can’t follow the simple step by step directions as i have no clue and am photoshop-thick. :-\

Can anyone help?

is there something specific that you cant do? :-\

i am trying to create that awesome effect on the url “hinduvidya.com

I can’t do most of it ;(

When i do the white shadow step, it wont let me, says “no pixels were selected”

Why did i not learn photoshop? :-\

Can you help at all?

Step 3:

Now make a darker grey your foreground color (#262626) and keep your selection.

Now go to Edit - Stroke -
Width: 5 pixels
Location: Inside
Opacity: 100%
Mode: Normal.

Still keep your selection.
did you keep your selection?

yes i made sure.

I even did CRTL+ clicking layer again :frowning:

well… hang on… there should be a point where you have pixels selected…

you type your letter…
select the letter and make it grey
then you’re keeping selection through step 3

… I dont understand how you can lose your selection by step 4? it’s impossible. you’re definitely doing something wrong.

;(

Try it…i know i’m crap at ps but i’m not that bad…i hope :-\

I dont understand at all what i can be doing wrong, and its 1 in the morning too!

at what stage are you losing your selection? there’s just no way to could/should happen! :-\

i’m not losing my selection

those funny squiggly lines run all around the text all the way thru

:q:

so wtf are you talking about? :sigh:

Ideally, i would like to apply the effect to an image i have…do you think it’s possible?!

hang on… so is there actually a problem you’re having with it?

as for working with an image… why dont you test it? :-\

My problem is when i do step three, it says no pixels were selected even though the text IS selected.

I’m sorry if i’m annoying you btw, what can i do, i’m trying really hard

the text is selected? as in… word-selected (as if you dragged your mouse over it)… as in… not like in the second picture (where the pixels of the text are selected? how are you selecting the text…

if you just follow the tute word-for-word it’s easy… just dont do anything that it doesnt mention

are you on the wrong layer?

Try zooming in on your selection

(I am assuming that you are a Windows user)

 1. Put a selection around your text/object.
 2. Go up to View>Zoom in (Ctrl ++)
 3. Then try to apply the effect.

P.S. If that doesn’t work, put a selection around the object, press Ctrl+J to release it to it’s own layer, then apply the effect…

I hope this helps…:thumb:

click on the text layer, particullarly the thumbnail, and select: select layer transparency

then moving dashed lines will surround the text.

how about… ‘just follow the instructions’?

Thanks for the help everyone, i will try again now

Asphalt, i appreciate your help, but i am not stupid. I said i didn’t have too much experience with photoshop, and that is why i asked for help.

I shouldn’t need to be afraid to ask for help in case i am ridiculed should i?

Anyway i will try again
:smirk:

My point is, it tells you exactly what to do (and press), word for word. In fact. I’m going to go and do this tutorial right now. Back in a few minutes.

EDIT: All despite how much I hate chrome text effects :stuck_out_tongue:
