Step 3:
Now make a darker grey your foreground color (#262626 ) and keep your selection.
Now go to Edit - Stroke -
Width: 5 pixels
Location: Inside
Opacity: 100%
Mode: Normal.
Still keep your selection.
did you keep your selection?

well… hang on… there should be a point where you have pixels selected…
you type your letter…
select the letter and make it grey
then you’re keeping selection through step 3
… I dont understand how you can lose your selection by step 4? it’s impossible. you’re definitely doing something wrong.

the text is selected? as in… word-selected (as if you dragged your mouse over it)… as in… not like in the second picture (where the pixels of the text are selected? how are you selecting the text…
if you just follow the tute word-for-word it’s easy… just dont do anything that it doesnt mention

Try zooming in on your selection
(I am assuming that you are a Windows user)
Put a selection around your text/object.
Go up to View>Zoom in (Ctrl ++)
Then try to apply the effect.
P.S. If that doesn’t work, put a selection around the object, press Ctrl+J to release it to it’s own layer, then apply the effect…
I hope this helps…:thumb:

click on the text layer, particullarly the thumbnail, and select: select layer transparency
then moving dashed lines will surround the text.

Thanks for the help everyone, i will try again now
Asphalt, i appreciate your help, but i am not stupid. I said i didn’t have too much experience with photoshop, and that is why i asked for help.
I shouldn’t need to be afraid to ask for help in case i am ridiculed should i?
Anyway i will try again

My point is, it tells you exactly what to do (and press), word for word. In fact. I’m going to go and do this tutorial right now. Back in a few minutes.
EDIT: All despite how much I hate chrome text effects
