all similar IP’s, all guests, some replying, some reporting posts?
Rev
might be a networked area like a school or something?
I kinda figured it was a school, but some were answering posts, some were reporting, one was retrieving a password…
that was weird…
Rev
one IP is still reporting a post…
how strange…
Rev
Are those sort of some group of spam bots which try eliminate kirupa’s bandwidth?
I know if you visit this forum via an e-mail like hotmail they show you as a guest, perhaps that is the situation, but that is a lot of people at once with similar IPs.
Definitely strange.
Lost: you remember the PCG stuff you and Phil were tracking? They’re back?

Inktomi is a yahoo.com company?

[edit]They are apparently a search engine type thing, so perhaps these are search engine spiders[/edit]

Yeah it has to be some kind of bots because the viewing behavior isn’t normal. Like Rev said, some of them are reporting posts and some are emailing other forum memebers.

They’re ending up getting the login page anyway. But they are definitely eliminating the bandwidth. :-\

I think Kirupa has unlimited bandwidth, so I don’t think its a problem.

true, but it does clog up the pipe…
Now one is “registering”
They are def bots of some kind.
If I were Kman, I would ban a few of the IP’s and see who complains… but that is me…

but if their spider bots then we don’t want to ban them. I say let them be, until they start cuasing problems…

that’s why I said I would ban a couple… just to see who complains…
but as you said, I doubt they are doing any harm…
