So I was sitting at my desk working on a Flash site for a DJ client of mine, when I realised I wasn’t being productive at all. 5 or 6 thoughts later, I found myself wondering whether how I worked made a difference. What constitutes ‘how you work’? Well I’m not sure but, I for one lay back in a chair and have my laptop on my lap (hence fulfilling its name and achieving a relaxing position, two birds with one stone) and I’d be shuffling the mouse on the edge of the sofa right next to me so my hand is also in a comfortable position. The chair I use is just a dining chair, my regular one broke but wasnt that great (at least it had armrests) and my feet are either up on my bed or on the floor or on the wall behind my desk. A short, unproductive while later I switched positions to being straight up in the chair, feet on the floor, laptop screen near-perfectly parallel to my line of sight, and the laptop on my desk itself with the mouse right next to it. I noticed an immediate jump in productivity; I started doing things faster and thinking through stuff with greater efficiency and speed instead of laboring about the Flash GUI.
