How is this done?

Can anyone tell me how the light movement effects is done? Specifically, how does it move precisely around the servers, for example?

I’m guessing they used a mask and a gradient bar.

  1. First create a gradient bar to represent the light and tween it which ever direction you want.

  2. Next use the pen tool and trace out the shape of the server so that you create a solid mask over the server image. Make sure it’s on a layer of its own above the layer with the gradient tween.

  3. Finally convert that layer to a masking layer.
