How should i publish?

Just curious as the best way to publish the flash files for my site. I use mx so on my intro page i say that the site needs flash 6 and put the link to d/l it, but i’m not sure how many people already have flash 6 and if i shoudl be publishing it differently. only the news, tour, and bios section is up so far

i use dreamweaver to detect if the user has the flash plugin. but you can also configure your server’s mime types to push the download if not detected

Here is the best solution I’ve seen and it’s from Macromedia themselves. It’s called the Flash Deployment Kit. Get it Here. It will autodetect the plugin, with an option to require the lastest plug, and if necesary auto install it for the user. If that fails it can redirect into an HTML page of your choice. This best part of this is it requires zero work from the user 99% of the time. Check it out.

FDK is the way to go on this one…but are you asking if you should publish as a previous version or not? well, if so, i have two beliefs…one, you should publish it as 5 if you want to be more available to the masses…but my main thought is this, if everyone keeps saving down, flash 6 will never get the popularity thus gaining the majority of users…hope that makes sense…basically if we want to be able to use 6 due to demographics…we as designers have to get it out there so people are forced to upgrade…

just a thought.
