I don't know why its not my buttons not working

Hi I have a problem with a set of buttons in my movie, they are rollover buttons, but they do not respond when i rollover them. Heres the fla if anyone thinks they can help. The button movie (which holds the buttons) is located in another movie called menu.

I’ve looked everywhere I can think of and I do not see any button instances in your movie nor do I see any actionscript that would initiate any roll overs. Also why are you using dynamic text for Minigoals? Why not just use static text and a mask?

there are no instances, but there are buttons, such as baby goal etc, and there is no action script to initiate rollover, all i did was edit the button, add a new layer, and under rollover, changed the position of the button. Do u know how to fix the problem?

Maybe its ur hit area that messes it up. Use dynamic text for any text no matter what cause static looks bad. I didn’t open up the .fla but I’m thinking its a text button? In the Up, Over and Down states, have your dynamic text, but in the hit area, make a rectangle big as the dynamic text, and delete the dynamic text from the hit area. Test da movie. Are you sure its set to behave as a button?

I don’t know, its a shot.:-\

man I have tried everything and it just doesn’t seem to work, i have saved it as a button, i don’t know whats wrong with it!

You must’ve attatched the wrong file 'cause there isn’t a single button in that fla… not even a button type action on a clip…

all there is is the preloader sequences schtuff

here it is, if u look in a movie called menu, i have put the buttons there, you’ll see a kinda square, which is divided up into buttons.

ok, this has more-

…nested inside “menu” is a clip called “buttons” that contains the buttons…

none of your buttons even have hit states ! … you’ve deleted the frames…

hmmm, somethhing is interfereing with the cursor …

…the dynamic text field that lives above the menu layer is stopping the cursor from hitting the buttons, delete it then add a hit state to them (the buttons) and voiala

i don’t know what ur talking about

1.) button timelines have four frames by default … you eliminated most of them …if you want your buttons to have a hit state … put 'em back - and define a hhit state with some solid shape

2.) your text layer (main timeline) contains a dynamic text field that is the size of the whole stage (****ear) … lose it or move it below the buttons … it is changing the cursor to an “I” beam and not allowing contact with the buttons

those buttons are only supposed to be rollover buttons, thats why they don’t have any other states apart from over. I deleted that layer that said text on the main timeline. It still doesn’t work though!

…because they have to have hit states so the cursor can identify when it has rolled over the button

You don’t need to delete the other frames for it to only have a visible change on rollover …

look, I did the other way round - I fixed one button and it didn’t work until I found the text thing and deleted it … it needs both items done to work

thanks man, that worked, for some reason, there should be minigoals written in that box that appears at the top left hand corner but nothing appears, i dunno why that is happening. Also i errased the fills, when i was making those buttons, is there any way I can fill those buttons now, or do i have to make the buttons again?

Thanks for the help, u know ur stuff!

Ok, there was a selectable dynamic text box overlaying just about the entire movie, which means the mouse changes to a selection cursor…

I have added a hitstate to one of your buttons, have a look and see how it was done, then modify the rest of your buttons to suit.

minigoals_edit.fla

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

glad you got it… [errr, FIREWIGHT… lookup :sure:]

as far as the buttons - you should be able to edit them to add the fill you want
as to the text in upLeft … yeah I noticed that diff from the first file to the second file but didn’t check it out … I’ll open it and have another look in a bit…

could be you have something over it or you changed the paths somehow (??)… look at the first file you attatched (where it does it ok) and the second (where it doesn’t) and look for differences…

gotta run somewhere for now

ok I got a chance to look …

in case you haven’t found it yet:
within your “menu” clip, your minigoals layer (where the myText lives) was getting hidden by the “white box” that slid in over it b4 the text appeared

just drag that text layer to a position above the box layer

oh and BTW, a filled-in copy of the buttons graphic would work best for the hit state especially because of how close they are to each other…
