This morning, like every other morning, I went to work by train. So I’m sitting there, listening to music and looking at the cows, trees and stuff outside, making myself comfortable. For once, the train is rather empty and I have all the room I want. A bit too comfortable that is, 'cause when I streched my legs, I didn’t even notice my wallet was sliding off my back pocket. When the train arrived at the station, I got off, being happy, still listening to my music (I got a Panasonic CD/MP3 player by the way). When I touched my *** to check if my wallet was still there, the world froze around me for 2 seconds. My bank card, my money, my ID, my driver’s license, the batch I need to enter in the office (it’s a kind of an expensive gadget thingy), etc… all gone!
First thing I do is calling the bank to block my cards. Second thing I do is… well… nothing really. I just go to the office, say hi to the security guy, explain everything and he lets me in. I sit down at my desk and look on the internet for the number of the “losts and founds” service from the train stations. Then my cell phone rings. A guy that found my wallet wants to meet during lunch break to give me my wallet back. I tell him I’m not too familiar with Brussels, so if possible, I’d like to meet in a touristic place or specific well known point. He says “Naaah, you don’t have to do that, that’s too far from the place where you work! Tell you what, I’ll come to your building at 12:30.”. Can you believe that?! The guy found my wallet and came here by tram! Just for me! At 12:30, the guy was already waiting. He looks like a big nerd, but he sure is a good man! I got my wallet, with my money and everything back. Everything! I thanked him so many times for his action and paid him the tram and gave him an extra amount. I mean, he could have taken the money and tell me he found the wallet like this on the floor, right? There are still good people on this planet!
Not everybody is a bastard!
You know my mom went to Italy… then she and some friends asked for direction from one of the local ones but the local guy didn’t speak english! and you know what? He called to some of his friends and minutes later a bunch of guys came by car who knew some english, gave 'em directions and then drove back!
What helpful ppl!!!
wow man that’s a good story. There are few things in the world that are more worriesome than loosing your wallet. There is just so much information in there and forget about the money - all the time it takes to get everything back from the oovernment and such… you are indeed lucky to have such a nice person find your wallet. You did a good thing by giving him a little reward to, a very nice gesture
Hey Kajinku,
That is really great. Losing my wallet ranks right up there with public speaking as one my greatest fears. Glad to see that it worked out well for you.
Wow thats really great! Not too many people would be that honest. I believe most people are relativly good, but again, its relative =) hehe I’d do the same if i was to find such a wallet. =)
I had something similar happen at a Grateful Dead show @ Shorline one time… left the show, got all the way to the car, realized I had lost my wallet and address book…
Went back to our seats, and my wallet and address book (with all the money and stuff inside) sitting on my seat (with my ticket stub)…
It’s great when your faith in humanity is restored…
