It took AI data centers to get people willing to go to jail

37 arrests over data centers in one year. That’s not nothing. We’ve had abstract concerns about AI for what, five years now? Regulation, safety, bias, all of it bouncing around policy meetings while everyone kept scrolling. But apparently a data center in your region actually using enough power to matter, or sitting on water you need, or just being visibly massive and real in your landscape - that’s the thing that makes people show up in person and risk arrest.

Matches what I’ve seen in siting fights generally, opposition tracks visibility and proximity, not scale of harm.

A data center is a building you can point at. “Bias in a training set” isn’t.
