Jailed murder suspect plucks out eye

SHERMAN, Texas (AP) – A jailed man accused of killing and cutting out the hearts of his son, estranged wife and her daughter plucked out his own eye and then quoted from the Bible, officials said Tuesday.

Andre L. Thomas was in a county jail cell Friday night when he tore his eye out of its socket with his hands, said Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary.

Thomas, 21, then quoted the verse Mark 9:47: “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell.”

Thomas was taken to a hospital and the eyeball was put on ice, but it could not be reattached. He is now being held in restraints at the jail, the sheriff said.

Thomas is accused in the March 26 stabbing deaths of his 4-year-old son, his 20-year-old estranged wife and her 1-year-old daughter. All the victims’ hearts were cut out; two were found at Andre Thomas’ house. He turned himself in and was charged with one count of capital murder.

A judge ruled Monday that Thomas will be evaluated by a mental health professional.

Alright then. Mr. Fester is a bit confused here. So the whole legal system is based off of god or the bible in some way. I mean they used to have you like put your hand on and and swear to it. I am not sure they still do.

So when some dude follows the word of it you send him for a mental evaluation?

On a sidenote. How awesome would it have been to be his cellmate and get to see him tear it out with his bare hands.

Thats sooooooo cool.

[laughing] you are a sick SICK puppy fester . . . [/laughing]

Did you ever have to read Oedipus Rex in high school? You know, the dude kills his father and sleeps with his mother and then pokes his eyes out when he realizes what he’s done. :-/

can’t you just imagine what this guy’s last visual image was?

Nope never read that one.

[joke]I think I am going to leave that one alone. I dont need to be reading anything that could potentially put ideas in my head.[/joke]

Ewwwwwwwww…slept with his mother. And ummm…she was cool with this?

she didn’t know

she and her husband dropped oedipus as a baby somewhere in the wilderness , because he had deformed feet (that’s how the greek version of the story goes)

ow… that sucks… hantibal…resurrection…

And the moral of the story is… eat your baby to avoid being killed/violated.

An oedipuscomplex is extreme love of a son for his mother, and seeing his father as competition for his mother. That’s one extreme example you’ve got there.

That guy with his eyeballs is a psycho !

His cellmates will call him “winky” from now on.
:cyclops:

Really? In most translations it’s because there was a prophecy that the king would be murdered by his son, so they hansel&gretled him to avoid the prophecy. Then I think he was such a good soldier or something that he got noticed by the high ups and quickly promoted, found favor with the queen (ahem), ended up killing the king, and then finding out the whole truth.

There is a sister play (no pun intended) called Antigone that is the opposite - girl wants to kill her mother and sleep with her father.

Freud must’ve loved these tragedies.

LMAO!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m pretty sure the bible wasn’t saying to literally rip your eye out… I think its safe to interprit it to mean something like: “If something, or someone you love is trying to bring you down, it’s better to let them go, get away from it/them, then be pulled down to their level, and do something you may not want to do…”
Or something similar…
In fact, a very paraphrased version could go: “If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it to?”

Lets try this again… in the correct thread :ne: OH, and Fester: What happens if he says in his defense something along the lines of: "The bible/god/jesus told me to kill my family, and eat their hearts (or whatever)"
Does the jury say: "Oh, well that’s alright then, 'cause God told him to. Not guilty. Sorry 'bout the eye thing."
That’s just not how things work.

… he should have chopped off his right hand instead, I’m not too sure his eye had too much to do with the murders :sure:

Well, lets just hope his lawyer double-checks all the paperwork - you know, crosses all the t’s… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

[pun]Jesus!![/pun] I dont know why your flipping out dude. It was actually a failed attempt at a joke.

I dont know how your above statement in any way aligns with what I had originally said.

Easy boys . . .

Remember, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

No, I wasn’t flipping… you were saying that he had to get a “mental evalutation” about taking the bible literally…
I was saying that our society should require such things, is all…
I was more upset that I posted in the wrong thread :ne:

Sort of. When the baby was born the father (the King) went to see the Oracle about the future of the baby. The Oracle prophesized that the child would eventually kill his own father and marry his mother. To keep this from happening the King and Queen pinned the childs feet together and gave him to a servant to place him far away in the wilderness so he would die. Oedipus means “Swollen Foot” in Greek.

The actual action of the story is him figuring out that it was him that killed his father and that Jocasta is actually his mother.

Fester: Its a great story if you get to read it. Only should take you about an hour or so to read it thru once.

See above post. And yes Freud did love these tragedies.

Anitgone was the first play produced. The story of Antigone takes place after the story of Oedipus The King. Antigone is one of Oedipus’s 4 children. Her older brothers have killed eachother and the new King of Thebes, Creon, Oedipus’s uncle/brother-in-law has declared that Polynieces (Antigone’s brother) shall not be buried according to the laws of the gods because he was attempted to steal the throne from his brother Eteocles. Antigone attempts to bury him anyway. Creon sentences her to death for defying the state. Creons son, Haemon, is set to marry Antigone and is a bit pissed off at his pop for trying to kill his girl. The best part of the story is the end so I won’t give it away in case anyone wants to read it.

Oedipus at Colonus was the second in the story but the last one produced by Sophocles. Its basically about how after Creon was exiled from Thebes in the first play (Oedipus the King) he comes to Athens and is deemed a ‘seer’ or prophet. And about how his children react after their father is exiled and stuff like that. I don’t like it but its a decent story.

And the first story in the Plot-sequence is Oedipus the King but was the second one to actually be written.

On that note: Just wanted to set the record straight and get the stories out there. As you can see I have read these storied about 100 times each, and at least 12 different translations and I have had to write huge papers on each one. Definately a good choice to write a paper on if you have the chance to. Lots to write about. I wrote a 27 page paper on how Creon transformed into Oedipus in Antigone
