OK guys, I finally decided to go ahead and post my last full Flash site. It’s for a New York Cinematographer named Learan Kahanov. I worked with him on two films as an assistant camera and drunkenly pitched him on a website at a wrap party, and months later, here’s the result!
Awesome, thanks guys! The client also loved it It actually originally had more features and details but we pared it down for a variety of reasons. Thanks for the compliments!
I’m not sure about the gradients on the top and bottom… they seem a bit out of place, and also take extremely long to load for some reason.
Also, where the video is, before you hover over it, I think it should have a dark gray area to tell you to hover, rather than the solid black with the rest of the page.
Thanks nokrev! Actually originally I had a really nice grayed-out single-pixel border around each of the thumbnails. However, one of the tricky parts of the site is that the aspect ratio of each video has to be disguised – in other words, no letterboxing can ever show! This is why the background of the video player is completely solid black, to hide the black letterboxing. The client, being a DP (Director of Photography), is EXTREMELY picky about these details, because many of the people who will be seeing the site will be other DPs. In any case, I agree with him. A better solution, of course, would have been to crop all the videos to their intended aspect ratio instead of letterboxing in the first place, and changing the code to deal with different video sizes and crap, but eh… we get lazy every once in a while, I guess!
