I did a search on this topic and would like to make sure I explore all suggestions before I go in and revise a flash movie that is too large.
I am going to start by compressing my images even more, and am considering spliting content into a seperate movie.
Anyway, I am looking for all advice on best ways to optimize final file size - right now I have an swf that is 440k which is huge and takes so long on a 56k.
Thanks to lostinbeta I have a nice preloader but I need a smaller movie.

Well you’re on the right track, you need to split that movie into seperate movies and use the loadMovie action to load them intot he main movie when it is needed.
