The master is in fact ourselves. Life is not like being a dog… but I understand where you’re coming from Surface.
Some believe, as I do, that knowledge exists to be found and understood by man. That with great power comes great responsibility. Our brains are very powerful. We cannot however fault those who do not believe such. It’s only an unprovable theory. We can pitty them, but again, it makes a statement of superiority of the unprovable theory over just living, which can never be proven to be “wrong”. An analogie like us being dogs, and knowledge being the bag in the closet ultimately is like that… it makes an assumption that some will not like.
Life is like RPG because RPG is a game created to emulate life.
I can’t think of any really good analogies myself. I’ll see if I can come up with something though. Sometimes it’s good to just think about these things, regardless of how they work for others, if you become better for it.
Jubba, I disagree with you on the apathy toward the creation of the world and evolution. I think humans should always attempt to explain the explainable through science.
But is it a moral necessity, or just you’re opinion? That’s what I’m talking about. There’s no proof that states that it is morality, ethicaly, or in any other way “bad”, to not feel as if you must know everything. I think that we’ve been hoodwinked to a degree into believing that it is “human nature” to want to know things. That’s not human nature… we’ve just stumbled upon a trick that makes us feel good about ourselves, and our universe. So, we propegate that feeling through constant exploration.
So you can not feel apathetic, but it doesn’t make sense, to me, for you to “disagree” with apathy.
I think humans will always try to explore the un-explorable. Obtain the un-obtainable, and know the un-knowable. The human race has constantly been raising the bar thru technology development, and in depth research.
As a race, yes we do. However, to me – as an individual, these things do not concern me. I do not care about how or why or when or by whom the Universe was created. I do not care about the meaning of life, I do not want to know if there was life on Mars, or if there is life somewhere out in the other galaxies. I do not care if god exists or not, because for me, to me, none of that matters to my life, my existence.
i said that, because he says he doesnt care much about anything, but little does he know how much he relies on everything he doesnt care to learn about
i didn’t judge you, so please do the same favor to me. None of that matters to me, and it shouldn’t matter to you.
why would the questions about the universe have anything to do with the way I live my life? It doesn’t. Thats my only point.
[edit]I didn’t say that I don’t care about anything, I just said that I dont’ care about the things that are unanswerable. I care about my friends, my family. I care about what is important. What is obtainable, tangible… [/edit]
The air around us is our legacy. We are born to it. You don’t need to learn anything about air in order to have a right to it.
As I said, to pitty those who do not believe as you do is placing yourself in a morality superior light. Which is fine. Myself, I need proof of the superiority of the sage in order to be satisfied in thinking myself superior.
Personaly… I think if you have that drive… more power to you. Please go out and learn, explore, rework the old into something new. We need plenty of thinkers and learners in the world. Likewise, allow man the right to just live, without the burdens of illusionary morality that we place upon everything that we do. Man is a living creature. Any member of the species should have the right to survive without the terrible and awsome knowledge which has driven more than one man to madness. It’s not an easy thing assuming the custodial mantle of sage. You cannot expect all men to jump up and accept something which in the end, leads to mental fatigue, physical illness, and/or depression. That is the road of the sage… it is not pretty, and certainly not for everyone.
i didn’t judge you, so please do the same favor to me. None of that matters to me, and it shouldn’t matter to you.
Now now friend Jubba, I’m trying to make a point here. It does no good to claim that knowledge shouldn’t matter to someone else. What matters to people is what matters to them. If no one should care about such things, we wouldn’t have computers, or air travel, or even know that the earth revolves around the sun. There is an importance in exploring the universe.
(oh, and some of us believe that there is nothing which is “unanswerable”. I would never bother to look for the answer to something unanswerable… but, if all things are answerable… if we assume that first, then we are never chasing empty air.)
I know what you mean. I don’t think that he’s trying to be judgemental though. It’s just the establishment’s arguement, and the establishment is very judgemental about things. I hope I’m doing a good job of showing why the opinion that all people should feel obligate to expand their understanding of the universe, is judgemental. Not sure yet.
Well “to God or not to God”? is a bad question, but just because we don’t immediately see the answer doesn’t mean that it’s an unanswerable question. There may come a point in the future when that question can be definitively answered.
I’ll admit that I find that unlikely. that’s why I don’t bother to look for proofs either way any more. The technology has not been developed that would convince me of a proof yet. I’m always hopeful though. I just mean, don’t close your eyes to anything being possible… just also don’t waist a lot of time on that which is very unlikely.
Remember that I’m a commie at heart. I believe that people should be able to find something in life that they enjoy doing, and be given all the oppertunity to make whatever that is, benefit society. In this regards I believe that there are phylosophers who are in charge of learning new things and passing that on. Then there are people who like to build with their hands, and they build houses for people, and that’s all. They shouldn’t have to think about things. Thinking about things is hard… it hurts at times. It makes me sad most of the time. It’s just a pain in the butt. I don’t blame you one bit for wanting life to be just as simple as living.
well for me its not just as simple as that. I do a lot of thinking. I am constantly thinking and analyzing, and reanalyzing my beliefs and ideals. I constantly question myself and test myself to ensure that I am true to what I believe it. I enjoy thinking about these things, even tho it is hard at times.
Life is not as simple as living, but with the beliefs that I hold, there is nothing more. I can explain more, but text can not protray the emotion with which my words must be read.
I must pause this conversation and re open it at another time.

thats better, the way I interpreted what you first said, was that you didnt really care about anything, and I do apologize for judging you, I did not mean to, nor is it my place to.
i didn’t judge you, so please do the same favor to me. None of that matters to me, and it shouldn’t matter to you.
heres where i have a problem, you are telling me what i should do, I may have been a little judgemental, but now you are too.
humm
edit again:
as I read more of the posts, I realized that you didnt mean to tell me what I should do, so anyways, it looks like we both agree on alot, just minor details are diffrent, and we have diffrent ways of expressing it, interesing
