Well, it figures that just as I’m giving a client advice about keeping sites optimized for 800 x 600 monitors www.yahoo.com and www.cnn.com release their new looks - both larger than an 800 x 600 screen can display.
Has anyone noticed this happening elsewhere on the web? The statistics I looked at today at www.echoecho.com indicate that 28% of web users have 800 x 600 screens - it’s certainly a lot less than in used to be but still almost a third of all people on the web. I guess I’d like to understand the reasoning behind their decision since these are both sites that would seem to have an interest in being accessible to as many people as possible. Is it possible that you are served a different layout on a smaller monitor?
Also, are there any opinions on this or resources where the trend toward larger screens and the rationale for larger sites has been discussed?
