Onyxpub.com

I did that one for my sister’s bar in South of France. They’re kind of freaky people (Gothic bar) , they dress in Black and like vampires, etc… So I went for the obscure/mysterious look. Let me know what you think of the navbar. thx!
almost forgot: it’s all in French (but still works

well it looks nice, but the buttons on the navbar give no indication of what section they link to.:-\

Ok first off - the graphics on the site rock. Great job - looks very dark and disturbing (what you were going for I think :))

Next, I agree with Legoman, I have no idea what the buttons do and to be honest if you dont know much about computers I wouldnt be sure you knew to click there at all.

All the animation looks good but some stuff is hard to read (because of the goth colours and so forth)

But all in all, very professional, just needs a few tweaks is all

thx for the input! Anyone else?

thats a cool site seen alot of the ideas here before but it has been redone well apart from the nav which is unknown until tried make it more clearer what is behind those nav buttons

all in all be proud especially of those gurgle click noises nice effect one i have not seen/heard before

well done

Very nicely done. Many ppl try to make a High Graphic Flash nav bar and fail. This one i like alot. IS it all Flahs or did u make some of the parts in PS. Definatly lable the buttons and make it clear that that is the menu. Lke they said normal users will not find your buttons. I also liked the graphic on the enter page. Reminds me of a retnal scanner. I think the Goth’s will get a kick out of this page. You might make them so happy they won’t be able to be goth’s any more:P

i did all the graphics in Illustrator actually. I love Illustrator  Then I just exported as swf. The registration points get kinda messed up sometimes but overall it’s a pretty smooth transition…
I made the navigation obscure on purpose… but if I get one more complaint about it I might just change it
thx guys.

I figured u made it in some other kind of vector program. Flash is great but making something with a lo of detail is hard in flash.

That type of navigation is called “mystery meat” and its bad. Read this article. It will make you change your mind  The site looks amazing though. Great job!

I like to call it hotdog or Spam Nav. :stuck_out_tongue:
Ya that s is a good article.

hi Jubba,

Although, I’m definitely agree (and will think about making the navigation scheme clearer) and appreciate you comments, I have to say that I pretty much completely disagree with the article you linked to
Sorry, but when I read: “Web design is not about art, it’s about making money” my reaction is to think it’s a joke. When I realize it’s a serious statement, I get upset…

Whatever happen to the “Information super-highway”… Now they would all want you to believe that it’s just an endless shopping mall…

The Web is for WHATEVER you want it to be. Some people like to make a living designing whole sites in a couple of days for $350…
I just made this site for a bunch of Goth in Southern France, so they can feel special and have a place to chat and get the program of the upcoming events (which, btw, loads without anyone clicking anywhere… ;).
I never intended to make money out of it and my sister (her bar) doesn’t intend to start a chain of StarGots

If anything, this article made me want to make my nav-scheme more obscure!

one more thing: the example of the naked girl particularly sucks 'cause you can totally tell it’s a guy (or a nasty girl) before mousing over
His other “examples” are also exaggerated to the point of discrediting his argumentation. Most well design sites (that does NOT include mine  use roll-overs for additional information, not for conflicting one like he’s trying to portray…
To make it short: I hated this article
I don’t mean to be rude or anything, so don’t take it personally ok? I definitely appreciate your help!!!

I only agree with the mystery meat part. Everything else is bs and a waste of time. I do feel web design is art it. It is interactive art so to be successful as an artist the user needs to know how to use it.

I don’t agree with everything that article has to say either. I believe that the internet is for whatever you want it to be. There is nothing there to tell you how to do it or what to do, I just offered you that link as reference to what I was talking about. I personally don’t like the concept of mystery meat navigation. I like to know where each button is taking me, without clicking and wihtout having to put my mouse over the buttons.

Your site is very nicely put together and the graphics are amazing. I can not manage to use Illustrator since I have used Photoshop so much…I’m not used to the vector programs. I definately like your site and the detail. I should have mentioned that. Good job.

Its not the type of style that I prefer. Too big, bulky and black with red dosen’t work for me.

All I can say is, I totally love it, great job
