Photography site check http://www.numero97.com

Hi all

Can you check out this photography portfolio site i did. Its very simple and plain. Just need people to try it out on their different specs and see if all is well with it. Fonts should be embed and the site should adjust to different browser sizes.

Cheers

Andy

nice font the numero97

simple, emphasis on the photos which is good

pictures are a bit dark, maybe blacks not the best background?

make the nav font larger

that rollover the pic thing with the mouse being replaced by a red crosshair and the menu of pics disappearing, I’d just remove all that. When I rolled over a pic the menu at the bottom disappeared. If this was the first pic I’d looked at I don’t think I would have known there was a menu hidden or to click on the pic for more. Best to remove the confusion and just have the menu at the bottom displayed at all times and remove the red crosshair

not bad, nice & simple and keeping attention on the photos the way it should be

Nice site, really clean neat site, i liked very much, it worked a bit slow on my computer, but is really good, congrats!

Very efficient layout.

But seriously, that menu at the bottom disappearing is a big negative.

Plus, the - and the + signs are innovative but impractical.

Use a bigger font in the navigation.

Simple, decent, likable interface. Change the background to dark grey rather than black.

What camera are you using? Specs please?

I like where its going, the only problems i have are almost the same as thelonephoenix, the font needs to be bigger and the + - doesnt work very well as there is no obvious explanation of what they do.

my only other thing is on the spalsh page the fonts seem blurry and out of focus
(im running 1280x1024, if this helps for checking purposes).

other than that keep it up

thanks for the replies so far.

Sorry for the essay.

The website is for a friend of mine so i dont know what camera he used for the photos. maybe a digital slr canon i think. but he has gone old school now.
the font size for the nav i think is big enough dont want it to stand out too much, i might play around with it a bit. but need room for more work which i will be adding soon. i didnt want too big cos on a 1024x768 it will look massive. the idea is the photos are the main attention like “RabBell” said.

I did think of having a grey bg but friend wanted black i think it works well with his work. I could change the background colour based on what photo it is, fading in and out. If his new work doesnt go so well with the black.

The thumbnail menu i am still not sure of. i know if i left it in view then the user knows easily that there are more photos to look at. but once again trying to keep it clean. maybe have some sort of icon there instead or little boxes for amount of pics.

“psmith” what spec is your computer and your browser etc.

“Darlo” will look into the splash page fonts. thanks. i think its just the small or large ones.

Ok the + - thing. maybe change to next / prev instead. just didnt want to have two buttons always there on screen.

When i chat to my friend about the site i will bring all this up. But as hes the client its up to him in the end. I can only suggest and persuade him.

Thanks again for the feedback so far. keep it coming.

Oh 1 more thing please leave your spec. eg mac/pc, browser, screen res, monitor size. cheers

have checked out the blurry fonts and i found that i needed to turn off the blur filter i used after they fade in. so did that by adding in a keyframe with no blur filter. cheers for that, should look alot crisper now. make sure u empty cache or refresh browser to see the fix.

Really relaxing to look at. I really like the simplicity of it all (though i know it was a lot of work)

For the thumbnail page; I would set it to 20% opacity if its inactive. 100% on rollover.

I see the pictures are loaded when you open up a category. Why not load them if you hit the thumbnail? if you have over 30 pics in a category it would take longer to load which in my experience is quite anoying.

For the rest; 2 thumbs up. great job. I would stick with the black bg.

specs; pc, FF+IE, 1280*1024, 17’.

Dude… I can understand if the client wants a certain thing done a certain way. But that navigation is waaaay too washed out. It definitely needs attention if nothing else.

A site can be kept clean without “not-using” anything on it. Instead of the +/- make the “box” where the photos are displayed a little bigger horizontally and put like 6-10 px wide button on each side with a small arrow on them. The buttons, I suggest should have a height equal to that of the photo-box. This way the site is clean as well as manageable.

Oh, if you try that, make sure that opacity of those buttons is very low… Like 10-15%… Or maybe dropdown to 5% if needed as well!

Well i serioulsy like the work, If you have a plus sign make it a bit more smaller and clear, Text are missing with the pictures. A line or two will definitrly add more gravity to the pictures.

thats a ■■■■ nice portfolio. I have seen a LOT of photography sites latley(research for work) and one thing I noticed: all the good ones have black backrounds and simple navigation. i dont think text is needed for description - thats the point of photograpy right?.. the picture says it all?..
