Playfulness gets expensive when people need a straight answer

i’ve been noticing that a UI can be charming right up until someone needs to find one simple thing fast. then the little jokes and hidden labels start feeling less like personality and more like a scavenger hunt.

maybe that tradeoff is fine for first-time use, but it gets weird once the app becomes part of someone’s daily routine. where do you all draw that line?

I draw the line at “can I tell someone where to click without sounding like an idiot?”

If the thing is “Billing,” “Export,” or “Reset password,” keep it plain. Hidden labels and cute names are fine in the empty states or the little success screens, but not where people are trying to get work done fast. Navigation should be boring. Boring is good.
