Post whoring

EthanM, I agree in a way, but I’ve noticed problems going by on the forums unanswered lately. This sort of system, with an “answered question” system, might encourage the people who post a million times to get their post counts up, to maybe be productive and “help out” a million times instead. I dunno. If you reward such activity, maybe we can get some of the weirder questions sorted out.

eighth grade?!?!?! Enjoy your next 5 years my friend. College is 10x worse on your time. I mainly waste my employers money surfing kirupa. Not my own time. Then again, I own it up when it comes to solving IT issues, optimizing/redesigning the website and maintaining the 40+ computer network, so they don’t fire me. Non-contract IT jobs freaking rule.

Are there weird questions not sorted?

I’ve heard of what wizard was talking about. I think its the Karma system I had once on a board that I happened to administrate.

so…is this thread actually constructive or is it just a way for people to boost their post counts by not adding much?

:stuck_out_tongue:

 Now we have to execute you ratbaggy. The Kirupa Konspiracy will live on… :ninja:

I only really read the first page but kirupa, what if we shut the post counts in the Talk forums off for a little while like we did before?

Now we have to execute you ratbaggy. The Kirupa Konspiracy will live on…

Oh I think I understand now!!! 5 more to go (at this point in time) till I reach 500. No whoring here.

BTW -
Everyone is making very valid points. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah you’re right. Like everything else, it does have its drawbacks. But what if it only existed in the “help” forums and only the person asking the question (thread starter) could give points?

True, there will be people taking advantage of this… but they can only do it for so long because eventually they would get tired of having to start a new thread and give their buddy 5 more points.

I don’t know, but I really would like to see a change… even though half if not most of my posts are spam and I’m probably one of the people Disco’s referring to. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a wasted Post… see now thats another thing that covers the entire forum. Having people tell us how many posts they have. I actually remember in this forum that there was like 10 threads with people acting all happy cause they had 1000 posts or somthing.

I wonder what whouold happen if kirupa added a 1000 post limit lol

There would be a lot more members! :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know - that seems too much of a radical step. I think it would be easier to use one of those human harvesting machines from the Matrix and pluck out the constant spammers instead.

The earlier post count shut down was targeted at silencing a few spammerific members, but most of them have stopped posting or fell victim to the human harvesting machines anyway!

with Dan behind the wheel :stuck_out_tongue:

What is the real concern?

that some members may have false hopes of glory when achieving higher post counts…

or something, I didn’t read the entire thread…

Usually those posts aren’t started by the person with x(1000) posts.

I think the concern is that there are people who have lower post counts, but spend more time writing answers in the questions and info threads who feel like they are somehow viewed as lower on the popularity or social status poll here at Kirupa.

I mean mdipi has like 9k posts and nobody even likes him!

I(personally) don’t dislike people with less posts, and if I ask a question, or read a topic where that person has answered the other person’s question, I like that person!

Those 9k posts are from earlier affairs…

A post shut down would just make it so that a few members coughHalothreadcough didnt feel the need to constantly span so their post count went up and have hopes of becomming a mod.

Once you get 1000 posts in the Halo thread you automatically become a mod, didn’t you know that?

Members aren’t using their time wisely if they hope that by posting a lot they will become mods. I think it is written in some ancient book that* it is easier for a camel to enter an eye of a needle than it is for a spammer to become a mod :)*

I don’t think it’s a mod thing. I really think it’s a popularity thing.

I think people by nature look to people with the most post counts as to be the seasoned cooler members and so people want to have their posts counts higher too.

What’s funny though is that some of the really great developers don’t have that high of posts counts and because of it aren’t as “popular” as some other people.
