aww why? Bad experience?
I had a bad experience with it when I first decided to make a career out of web design. But it’s really not that. For me, everything about it is vague. The prices, the structure… the hours. I get lazy and never get things done.
Let’s see here…
When it comes to money I get unlazy… hehe… When it come sot myself… I’m lazier than a rock…
When I started out… it was just straight cash man… And it was all local area… Nothing out of town… I don’t do anything out of town yet… And I’m like fester… I like to consult with the guy 1 on 1 before anything. It helps to build character and trust… And it’ll just make the deal go even sweeter…
Now I get checks and money orders and everything but credit cards. heh… I typically make them pay 1/2 up forn ti fit’s a big project… Otherwise… $100 upfront.

**yeap! umm… how do they pay for your work? Credit cars or sth?
playa when you were 14 or so how did the clients pay ya?
well I mean the ones who were far far away! **
LOL… when I was 14, there weren’t any Personal Computers…
My advice: Get them to pay 1/2 up front (if it is a large project, agree on a monthly amount), and do not sell yourself cheap. It is extremely difficult to raise your prices once established.
I charge a minimum of $50/hr. for cust with a contract.

I know what you mean…sometimes it is extremely difficult to walk across the room and get going on a project (especially if you don’t see yey to eye design-wise with the client). I would gladly work for someone, right now, I am tired of freelance…

I’ve never really worked freelance before, just for companies. I earn a reasonable amount per year, but I’ve only just started really, so give me a few years and some experience and a web designer and developer can earn a fair bit.
how would i get a customer?
Market yourself man.
Make some business cards, post flyers, cold call business you know have crappy websites, walk into insurance agents, used car lots, real estate brokers, pet stores and tell them how integral to thier branding efforts a website would be.
they love business buzzwords
Having a professional site with examples of your work is huge
I’ve only done a few bits and pieces freelance, but I don’t have a set price list. Generally I look at what the person want, estimate the complexity, time and effort involved and give them a quote from that.
