Problems with a tutorial

In my effort to become a soulless trendy designer, I was doing this tute posted by Sintax: http://www.systemdark.com/academy/photoshop/trendwhore/index.php

I have a problem with the second part of step 2: how can I “nudge the selection down a bit” (actually, I don’t even know what it means in English…).

Can anybody help?

pom

Easy!
Select the object/layer you want to “nudge” (-means move…kinda) and with the move tool selected (the black arrow) use your arrow keys to nudge it anywhere you want!

See when you do this look in the history panel! The last thing you did was “nudge”!

Errr… Hemm… Yes, of course, I knew that! :sure:

Thanks Syko, I was convinced that somehow I had to alter the selection, and I just couldn’t get it right :beam:

I’m sure you did!
No Problem! =)

All right all right, I have another question  : step 4, I have to use the “cutout method”… which is??

use the polygonal lasso tool, choose the part you want to cut then press delete.

i forgot to tell that polygonal lasso tool isn’t the only thing. Depends on the situation. Sometimes it’s better to use the simple rectengular tool or elliptical or whatever that makes marquee :). But in your case (as i saw) it is best to use the polygonal lasso.

it’s me again. I went through a tutorial a bit and there is something that’s really bothering me in the second part of step 2 (crystals). You have to duplicate (ok), change the lightness level (ok), then you have to select the layer and nudge down a bit (ok), and press delete to have a 3d look (?!?). How is that possible because if you press delete while you have the layer selected, the layer will dissapear and not make some 3d effect.

Please explain?

Thanks Luksy, I though it was some special technique I didn’t know about :stuck_out_tongue:

And concerning the 3D look, deleting part of the spike will reveal the black spike under a bit, giving it the 3D look

cutout note: there is also a filter effect named “cutout”!

yes but it’s not it. In the tut, he just has to cut a piece of layer.
