Serious Computer Help

I was on the Tech TV website and came across this interesting article.

Leo’s Tip: Fix Your Post-Spyware Connectivity
written by Leo Laporte on Thursday, August 26, 2004

After removing spyware, you may need to repair your Internet connection with Winsock Fix.

It’s not unusual after removing a virus or spyware to find you can no longer go online. That’s because these programs often modify key system files, and their removal either damages or deletes those files. The same thing can happen when removing a firewall program.

Microsoft does tell us how to fix things in the tech note HERE. But unless you just love hacking the registry, I’d suggest trying this free program from Spychecker first:

Winsock Fix,

The developer’s page in Canada is no longer operational, but thanks to Spychecker, you can still get the program. Free. You might want to check the rest of the Spychecker site for useful tools and tips in fighting spyware.

Its kind of a longshot but if service pack 2 did remove an adware/spyware app that had nested itself into a critical file and removed it, then this might work. Its worth a shot. :beam: :thumb:

Same thing happen to me all I did was uninstal my nic card(aka the drivers) rebooted windows found it reinstalled it and everything was kewl!

Hope this helps. EEasiest way to do this is to go to start<control panel. From there double click the sytems icon then hit the hardware tab and hit device manager. Then just riight click on your nic card and uninstal. Now I dont suggest this if you have a onboard nic.

Hope this helps!

I think she tried that already. And I am prretty sure it is an onboard nic. Its a dell and I am pretty sure 99% of dells released within the past 3 years integrate it on the board.

I had ad-aware on my machine and it wouldnt work with serive pack and also last year when that big virus when around that the box came up adn said yu have 30 seconds to close down (the one you could fix through a patch form microsoft) welll that happened right after I installed service pak 2 the next time I booted my machine up I was using it for maybe 20 minutes and that happened and since then I have been stuck…

should i just copy that on to a cd??

good find fester - the winsock lsp fix is that nagging culprit.

I would give it a shot.

With the advice everyone gave so far I dont think there was anything configuration wise that wasn’t covered.

I dont think it would damage your system any more than it is already. :beam:

I will give it a shot when I get out of work…Thanks…I have clocked 20 hours of over time between monday and thursday night so when ever I leave her tonight I will give it a shot…I hate 65-70hour weeks!!!

no prob :thumb:
I think it might be what you need.

Yeah 20 hours a week overtime does suck. but I am sure the extra $$ is good…
Even though you might not have the time to spend it:lol:

I dont get overtime here, frigin salary!! I am getting some vacation time out of it though!! Question is if I’ll have time to take it!!

Thank You Thank You Thank You :flower:

It works…released the IP and I have access again

awesome :beam:

Glad it worked. I know you work from home a lot.

I knew one of these days you would need the forum for more than ethical debates and the jokes
