alieninlondon
It’s pretty good for Swish, but not great compared to what you can do with Flash. The biggest problem is that it seems to have been done to quickly. The navigation is not good at all, as you don’t know which button you click (there’s not even a little rollOver effect). The images are nice, but the liquid shape is just put in the middle like that, and the bottom doesn’t fit at all. And I find the site very static, there’s not much happening, except that kind of interstellar travel when you click a link , which is not looking so good unfortunately.
AlienInLondon’s site did seem quite static. Given more time, and a more original theme, the site should be top notch.
SG1: Interesting concept, I am supposing he is a stargate fan obviously I don’t like how when you enter a section, the buttons are still clickable, but you have no clue what they lead to. To be able to see where a navigation button leads to you need to first hit the exit button, and then rollOver the button. The buttons shouldn’t be clickable after entering a section if that is the case.
Dune: Overall, it is pretty much the same concept as the SG1 site, but with a different look. Much better transitions in content though. Also much clearer navigation. The text in the black box is all orange though, when there is a lot of text together it is hard to concentrate on what you are reading.
I also liked the Alien In London number two site (Dune), the colours worked well for me. But it just wasn’t as in your face as Yamo’s.

I knew him a bit from my French board, and I didn’t know he was that good. The navigation is very suprising, but I got used to it pretty fast. I like the overall design, as it is full of surprises and inspirations. The professional projects and personal experiments are very good too. I really love it.
I didn’t really like the layout. Nice site, just not my flavor. I don’t like how that bar follows my mouse. Feels like I’m being chased. If they maybe anchored it to the right of the page it would be much better. Also needs a little more content.
Boy oh boy did this site look cool… It was definitely my style, but it had one major flaw. The window resized to fit my 800x600 monitor. Why is this a flaw? Well, it is because the movie was bigger than the window, and scrolling was disabled. After clicking the news thing, it scrolled down and the close button was out of reach in the window, so I couldn’t get rid of that. And as far as any content on the right side of the site, well I couldn’t see that either. I could only see abot 1/4 of the site, and none of that was content. Major flaw that made me vote against him. If it is anything like what I am picturing in my head of what it could lay out to look like, it must be cool, but I wouldn’t know.
yamo
another Frenchman, yeah! Great design, great drawings, great work, great transitions, great color scheme… I don’t like the music so much but the rest is pretty much flawless. I like it very much too.
I voted for Yamo. I agree with Pom about the site. Great color, illustrations… music could use some work, but I liked it much better than the others.
i liked yamo’s a lot. good music, all around good animation, and nice interface.
Ok, not too fond of pop ups, but this site was great. The animation was smooth, the content was layed out nicely, the art was great. The site was easy to navigate and is pretty straight forward. I am not too sure about the boingy box effect between sections. I like the effect, but it seems to be becoming widely overused anymore. I did like the way the sections were layed out though, very nicely done.
Anyhow, I voted for Yamo, and it looks like I’m backing the current favourite.
His site just stood out for me amongst the others. It was bright, colourful, and above all beautifully drawn. The transitions were smooth, and the cartoon characters were a nice touch. Particularly the static running through the first guy until his features fade in… I like that.
One quibble with it - get rid of the ****ing pop up! I hate them with a passion!
akospapp
Aw, déjà-vu
I really like Akospapp’s site, but yamo just had it beat.
Man… poor Akos, he submits when he has incredible opponents. Pretty much anything that has to be said about his site was said in the last SOTW, so I won’t repeat. It is an excellent site indeed.
astute
Nice menu, but I suspect he took it from an open source. Anyway, the menu is a good idea, but it is not practical at all, there are some items I can’t see, and it lags like hell. Finally, the design of the different parts is a bit dull.
I really didn’t like Astute’s and that pretty much put me off to the entire site…
astute’s site was totally killing my computer so i definitely didn’t vote for that one.
It sure does take a really long time for that enter button to appear. And I am sorry, but your whole navigation system almost crashed my computer. It is so CPU intensive. And it was very hard to see what thinks linked to, you would have to mouse over it so it would grow and be readable (which isn’t good when the CPU usage makes it lag), and when in a subsection it all got even smaller. I am sorry, but I really was not too fond of this site. The menu idea is very interesting, and I can’t say as I have ever seen it done before, but it is just too CPU intensive to have to rollOver each button to see what it is, it caused my whole system to lag.
