Hi.
Last night on the news here in Denmark was a story about the torture and degradation of Iraqi prisoners by US troops in Iraq. There were pictures of Iraqi prisoners with hoods on and electric wiring fastened to their arms and genitalia.
That doesn’t really surprise me. War is ugly and makes everybody nasty.
What surprised me is that the Pentagon is asking US media to not report this. And the media are mostly complying. CBS had the images on their website for a brief period, but have taken them down again. The story originated from CBS and the images were first shown on ‘60 minutes’.
For the story in a danish newspaper, see here: http://politiken.dk/VisArtikel.iasp?PageID=316957
So what are your thoughts? Is it right for the media to suppress a story, because the Pentagon asks them to?
