Taking over a Flash Site

Taking this over, it’s too slow to load. All I did was write the loading scene. The speed was complicated.

Please - Gloves off. Not my work, but I have to change it and maintain it.

wow…you weren’t kidding

i was just about to close the window when the loading screen finally popped up…it says i’m downloading at 30 kb/s and it’s still only at 33%! the loading screen looks fine though.

dum dee doo, waiting for it to load…

still waiting…

okay…first off you need to seperate all the pages into individual swf’s…there’s a great tutorial on this site on how to do that (just use the search bar up top and type “first flash site”)…this way, people who only want to look at BMW’s don’t have to load all the Honda pictures

secondly, the navigation is a little confusing…once i clicked on BMW’s, it took me a minute to figure out how to get back to the main screen…you should have a static “menu bar” for easy navigation

finally, i might consider getting rid of the flash all together…either that or “flash” up your site more. what i mean is, 90% of this site could be done just as easily in html. the only real “flash only” effect on the site is the way the logos move VERY SLOWLY down the page.

good luck

My thoughts exactly, it started as a design project for this kid and he turned it into this monster. I hate it and updating the cars is a *****.

Was the speed not accurate though?

the speed was accurate (my connection is capped at 30 kb/s)…i was just making the point about how huge a site it was!

for something like this, where you are going to be updating the pics daily/weekly, HTML would be A LOT easier…then again, you could load the pictures of the cars into flash dynamically or whatever (like have actionscript that calls external JPG’s into the movie)
