I don’t think money is the main reason why the “good” NBA players are going to the olympics. I think the main reason is that they already won a gold medal and are giving others the oportunity to win one too

what we really have is a case of no jump shooters or power players. throw that in with inexperience and unfamiliarity with each other and it really shouldn’t be surprising that we’re struggling.
to say they are a “dream team” is disrespectful to the original dream team. even if this team had kobe, shaq, t-mac, garnett, and duncan, it would still be disrespectful to call them a “dream team”. people expect every USA team to fill the shoes of MJ, Bird, Magic, etc and it’s just impossible.
Plus, those guys (Jordan, Byrd/Bird, Magic) were team players… the guys that are there right now are trying to do everything themselves, or in most cases, trying to do too much.

replying to the rest: yeah, our current guys do try to do to much (mostly because they can’t shoot the lights out or pass effectively). and the international game has improved 10 fold.

uhh… you didn’t blitz us in basketball. and in swimming thusfar, USA has 7 medals, AUS 3.
lol…hands down we are still the dominant force in hoop. I think we would be better off even sending college teams. Another big issues is that we ave 2-3 weeks to prepare. And trying to get 15 players from 15 differents offenses/defenses to work together in 2 weeks is a tall order. I dont think teams have gotten that much better as to the fact we send our second tier players. Shawn Marion?? Lebron?? I am sorry these dudes got ups but I would much rather have T-Mac, KG…ya feel me. I still think we will win the gold. But we need to get serious about the Olympics.
I still say the guys these days are sissy’s and while more finesse and show, lack the guts of MJ, Isiah Thomas, Clyde Drexler and Joe Dumars…I could go on forever.

i agree with ddd and bwh2.
theres not enough international basketball experience in the american team and the international game has greatly improved… but like ddd said they will find their way and probably get the gold.

I watched Australia play this morning (sydney time) against Greece and Greece were shooting the lights out, had a 12 - 0 run on Australia at the start of the game. Australia came back but Greece held their own, strong inside play and nice outside shooting.
Being Greek and born in Australia i wasnt sure who to go for. lol, in the end it was a decent game although Australia played well below what they are capable of.
